Yeah you contrast to the overlapping centre backs and that team was coached so well in patterns of play. You knew what was coming but the opposition couldn’t stop us because the formation just cleverly gave us overloads. Then O’Connell got injured and we couldn’t replicate as we didn’t prioritise his replacement at the right time.

We prioritised having our own keeper in Leadboots and striker in Sicknote Brewster. I still maintain we should have prioritised replacing Lundstram with another high tier midfielder and an alternative for O’Connell who could replace Egan as an alternative too.

We went mend and make do with Robbo, Ampadu etc.
Wasn't Berge brought in to replace Lundstram?

It quickly came apparent having him and Norwood in the same midfield was like trying to eat soup with two forks ...

Marsh is a joy to watch, unlike many of our current crop of workmanlike squad. He has a wonderful touch and awareness, and I just hope the lad gets a chance next season, whatever division we're in. Would love to see a side where Marsh, Arblaster, Peck, Seriki, and One are all regular starters. I see he's contracted to summer 2028.

Just a bit of a daydream, not an assertion that Marsh is ready:

Cooper
Seriki - Tanganga - Kitching - McCallum
Phillips - Peck/Arblaster
Donovan - Marsh - Oné
Bamford

Solid spine, pace and stamina on both flanks, creativity at No10.

I'd be over the moon with that, but put Peck in the 10 and rotate with Marsh.

That midfield area is weak as piss.

We'd constantly have four attacking passengers when out of possession.

Although, our midfield gets run through every week anyway so we might as well give it a go.

I think having O’Hare and his defensive work rate made up for a lack of athleticism in the midfield two. That has been easily exposed this year and is why whatever formation we opt for, it has to be three in the middle or it shows a fundamental lack of understanding of where we’ve been going wrong.
