Marsh

You clearly don't understand the purpose of this thread.
-If Marsh does well, Wilder is an idiot for letting him go.
-If Marsh does badly, then Wilder has already ruined him, and he can't manage academy players.
I think a more pertinent question for Wilder would be - why do you trust shit, over the hill, unathletic washed up pros over players who whilst admittedly might not be perfect, may well turn out to be decent?

Risk / Reward. I'd rather Curtis shit the bed as a reserve RB than watch Choudhury look completely lost. Just as I'd much rather take the bumps with Marsh/One than I would sit through another BBD /Ayew masterclass ...

Just because we ask the question, doesn't mean we hate Wilder or want him sacked.

Ah, so the thread casts off its veil as about an academy product, and becomes another CW attack.

If you'd seen Curtis at Hallam, not even managing to look better than amateurs, I don't think you'd be pushing for his inclusion.

How is it an attack? Stick your pearls back on darling.

If asking questions is seen as an attack I think you need to cut down on the caffeine...

Had you already prepared this response expecting someone to attack Wilder, then when it didn't happen just posted in reply to something which was at worst mildly critical because you needed your Sunday morning flounce?

Curtis might not have looked better than amateurs but amateurish also reflects Shackleton and Choudhury's efforts at right back this season and Doherty's lack of availability doesn't really make him good backup when we could have saved a fortune on wages and used what he had.

In a team that no longer has a talent advantage most weeks, choosing players based on their 'knowledge' rather than their current ability or potential to be better than the level you are at if given opportunity and the right structure, especially when the older players are sub par athletes is how you build a squad that gets relegated.

Citing Hull last season, but ignoring the bit where their team was full of running and physicality makes it look like Wilder is out of ideas on how to build a way of playing that emphasises the strengths of his squad, so wants 'players that know the division' to do it for him.

How tall is he? Looks about 6’3 in that video!
Marsh is a late developer ! Who has great skills ! Wilder knows this and is giving him time to adjust hes had some bad luck which Wilder appreciates.Any talk of Wilder not rating him is junk! he would have been released by now if he had nothing to offer us.Most talented player in the club! a big blade and the great thing is he wants to play for us!.
Ok ! Yes he might not reach the great heights i think he can ! Time will tell.

If only you were just 'asking questions'.

I don't suppose in any way, you see words like 'shit, over the hill, unathletic' as demonstrating a lack of objectivity?

I've no idea what your caffeine or pearls jibes meant, but they are probably very funny.
Tee hee hee.

The only way to truly assess Marsh, is under a new manager. Where that is at United or elsewhere. He's doing well at Chesterfield but it is league 2.

Over the hill ? Would that include Cannon?

Could be another David Brookes job.

Remind me again how Seriki's loans went?

And how many games in the Championship Burrows had played?

As Carlton Blade says - Marsh would have much more upside coming on for Ayew, Shackleton, BBD.

Same with Curtis and Chong/Doherty.

We're not very good at this running a progressive football club malarkey are we?
No because you have to have experience you know. Thats the only reason we struggled towards the end of last season, not enough experienced players. So we've brought Phillips, Jairo, BBD, Doherty, Choudhury et al in and we are tearing the league a new one....

The experience players at the end of last season didn't make much ofa difference and this year they have been absolutely fucking garbage.

Spot on, plus we must be spending at least £35/40k per week for them too, and for what? We ain't got a barrel of money, but we've wasted it on Ayew and Choudhury.

Great point. The wages we're spending on Shackleton, Rothwell, Riedeweld, Doherty and Chaudhery come under the heading - 'spunking moneh'

It is almost as if players with "Championship experience" (i.e. those that aren't and never will be good enough to have got to a better league and stay there) are not cheap and have no upside!

I don't really get "experience". How would it ever come over "current ability"?
It might slightly help in the dressing room I guess, but its a game of football, they're not off to war.

I genuinely think the 'experience' is meant to make up for the lack of cohesion, ideas and intent in attacking play. "They know what they're doing, they'll sort it" sort of vibe

A mix is probably good. But we must be careful not to end up with too many players whose careers are on the decline. This popped up in my fb feed the other day:

The player is Danny Higginbotham, and you can see where we are in his career path. I assume this type of signing is quite expensive, their contribution isn't always great and they reduce playing time for players who may still improve - but only if they get minutes.

A player to whom, if I recall correctly, we gave an option in his favour for an additional year (2013/14). We ended up paying him off to let him join then-National League Chester. That was beyond madness.

It's a short term attempt to solve problems the coaching staff don't either have the aptitude or the energy to tackle themselves.

The answer to 'my players aren't good enough to play exactly how I want them to' can't just be 'sign more players'. There needs to be adjustment to your players strengths and coaching to find improvements.

Everything I've seen since Wilder came back in 24 is that we have a lazy coaching set up. There's been no attempt to find away of consistently creating chances and now the talent level isn't higher than the opposition consistently, it's stark how clueless the players look interesting of patterns of play, getting players in positions to hurt the opposition etc

He was a player on the up, he made his international debut a few months after leaving us.

Marsh looked way off every single time he played for us. League two is clearly not his level if he's banging them in for fun. Hopefully we can recall and send him to league one for the second half of the season to get a better idea as to if he's really pushed on

I have watched a lot of Marsh.
He always reminded me of David Brooks (different type of player but some similarities in the way he reads the game, his touch and vision, he has a great 'football brain')
When we had the 'golden spell' in the U21's with Seriki, Brooks, N'Diaye, Osula, Arblaster, Peck (albeit at slightly different times) - I always enjoyed watching Marsh the most and felt he would come through more quickly and make an impact.
I felt the same about Seriki - he also took a while to break through.
Players develop at different times and I still feel Marsh will make a very good Championship player and who knows from there.
Would love to see him given a chance, I agree with a few others, I haven't seen anything from Ayew, BBD or even Cannon for them to be ahead of him.

If he carries on progressing as he is would a recall aka Brooksy be on the cards ?

As in, they'll motivate/sort/organise/look after themselves? You're probably right.
He probably can't be arsed to nurture the likes of Brooks, Seriki, Donovan..

It's not a personal attack on him. He's done 1,200+ matches. I don't think he has the energy or enthusiasm required to take something imperfect and difficult to mould and make it shine anymore. 'Experience' is a by word for 'needs less direction'
