I don’t know how we can still be talking about a lack of physicality when he’s scoring goals and playing well in league two. Aren’t the lower leagues supposed to be infamous for being more rough and tumble?

Cannon looks to have bulked up massively over the summer at a similar age, no reason Marsh couldn’t do the same if put on a proper program over a summ

Plays in middle of front mid 3 in Chesterfield's 5-3-2-1.
He finds space, excellent ball control and passing ability. Can also play off a big CF in 4-4-2.
Also scores goals, 4 in 6 games (sub in 3 of them).
Despite his lack of physique he can easily beat a man and is a good ball carrier ie in old school he can dribble.
Imho a cross between Duffy and O'Hare. What's not to like.
He could be our O'Hare/Duffy replacement ie the missing "Number 10". Gerrim back.
He's on a season long loan but we may have a recall clause - although knowing us we won't in either case.
Er, 4 not 5 at back, lol.

And another goal for the lad 😍
I watched the second half. Marsh played very well, he looked good on the ball and kept it and passed it well.
Chessie commentators were also enthusing about his first half performance. He scored a good goal but faded later on and was subbed.
It's obviously proving to be a good loan for the lad and may be worth recalling him in Jan if possible.

Blades player can’t last 90 mins. Who’d have thought it? Rather have him than Ayew tho

I appreciate the debate, but Marsh has had chances with us and loans and not looked ready. He's now having a loan where he's showing he might be ready.
Regardless of the Ayew debate, I don't think we've managed Marsh badly.

We did manage Jebbison and Osula quite poorly and potentially about to do the same with Oné.

I'd take using our youth players over signing yet more old players on way more than they deserve to be, all for them to stink out the place and/or be injured constantly. Wilder was always a bit rubbish with money, but he's proved he's also useless working with youth.

Is there a common denominator there? Only asking as I can’t remember whether Hecky or Wilder mismanaged Jebbo & Osula

Jebbison and Osula both had far more opportunities with us than Marsh has had. He has made 6 appearances for us, none have been in the Championship. Clearly, he isn’t a Wilder type of player, but that doesn’t mean that he isn’t going to develop into a very good player. Probably away from here, though.

Also, Osula was always leaving. His physical traits are world class and he's technically good. Jebbison was good physically and scored that PL goal early. Marsh is a potential 200+ apps United player and I don't think we've invested enough time in him when we've given so many minutes to players who'll mean nothing to the club.

For Marsh's sake, he needs to leave permanently and get his career started

I don’t disagree. But my hope is that he has a great loan this season and then kicks on and flourishes here under whoever the next manager is.

Admittedly I've only ever seen Marsh play in the daft cup games... but... at 22yo, id say there's probably a reason he's never played at a higher level than League 2.

Because, until last season, we have always been in a "results now" window and not had the luxury of being able to bring players in with the relative freedom of not worrying much about results that we had right up until we saw the 86836th post whining about VAR back a couple of Mays ago.

No he hasn't?

I guess it comes down to your definition of "chances."
I've seen Marsh play in league cup games and he's had loan spells in senior football and he's looked miles off it in terms of physicality.
I've always liked the look of his technical ability but it's meaningless without the former.

If he's now showing that he's filled out a bit and can cope with the demands of elite, senior professional football then that's great, but he hadn't looked a Championship level player hitherto.

Jebbison and Osula always had the physical bit (though, could look raw / gangly at times). From memory, it was Heckingbottom that messed them around with his half in / half out approach. He loaned them, recalled them, didn't play them, etc.
I still think there's a big player in both of them, but DJ's attitude seems to have hindered him.
Osula is already valued north of £40m.

Ryan Oné is similar to Jebbison and Osula in terms of physicality... although, I actually think he looks more oven ready than either of those two did, for first team football in a Sheffield Utd shirt.
He doesn't look gangly in his frame, he looks powerful, quick, balanced..
We really must get minutes into him and just be patient. We're not chasing autos (as we were with the others), we might as well blood him in... he's our only (potential) golden goose.

Its only a few weeks since fans were saying hes not good enough( I wasn't one of those)get rid!.was the call !.
Hes had a checkered few years where loans havnt worked out due to injury which meant he never really got going.Had a great spell at Falkirk cut short again by a thigh injury which are pigs to get over and it finished his season.A good short term move to Chesterfield is just what he needed now he is fit again. We normally have a cut off clause in season long loans hopefully this is the case with him.
Watched him closely developing his natural talent ( his lack of physicality hasnt helped ! He's a late developer having a growth spurt which sees him in the region of 6 ft a good size for a technical player ! hopefully he is now getting stronger! Which I'm sure he is).
Wilder knows what Marsh has to offer and he has to be back to us in the new year( we are desperate for someone of his nous! He's a big blade and wants to play for us ! Keep fit and he will be a fantastic addition for us in the 2nd half of this season.

Just watched the Chesterfield highlights from yesterday. Obviously a small sample size, with a full game being compressed down to less than 3 minutes, but he looked good in what was shown.

He had a few opportunities first half. One shot from just outside the box, went just past the keeper's left-hand post, and one chance from the right side of the box, where the GK made a smart save. And one from the other side, after a teammate's shot was saved, and he tried to pick his spot in the far corner.

Takes his goal very well. Teammate breaks into the box and loses the ball. Marsh is first to it. One quick touch to set, and then thumps it high into the net from an angle to the right of the goal. Very calm head in a chaotic situation.

In every clip of them attacking, Marsh is looking for (and usually finding) space in and around the box. There was a chance in the 2nd half after he scored where Mandeville took a shot, but Louie was in perfect position for a pass (unmarked, centre of the box, a pull back would have cut the goalie out of the game entirely).

I'm surprised that Chessy didn't get a result based just on their first half chances. Several chances for Louie, another lad smashed the crossbar, and the Cheltenham keeper made an outrageous save to stop a certain goal (shades of Seaman vs Pesch, 2003).

First impression is that Paul Cook is really taking advantage of his skills as a #10. He had moments all across the front line just in a small video package, so I'd imagine that's something that happens consistently during the course of a match.

I already thought he could do a job in our team if given the right direction. We are struggling with ball retention currently, and his ability to find space in advanced areas could really help with that. Only concern is that with us not playing a #10 currently, that he'd end up out of position, look ineffective, and people would start to slate him as a result.

So far, so good for him at Chesterfield though. If we change tactics at some point, and start to play with a #10 behind a central striker, I'd want him to be that #10. It would be a great opportunity to continue his development, and to raise the value of an academy graduate.

Technical Skills are one thing but doesn't necessarily mean you are going to make it at a high level. I have seen loads of non league players do stuff Billy Sharp never could but I know who has had a better career.

One of the better ones has had a futsal career i think but never even got above conference South level but look at his highlights from a time non league really wasn't filmed often!

i would still rather us blood our youngsters in the first team than persisting with a team two thirds full of over 30s we might still go down with the lot wilder has brought in
Might still go down! We would be guaranteed to go down.
Can't expect players playing in our academy and one or two out on loan to do the business.
All this talk of Lamine Sedimy ( spelled it wrong i know)he maybe a star in the making and could maybe be a bench warmer at this stage of his career.
How old is he not played much for the 21s yet Not only this! remember Ndiah ( have i spelled it right ?)we held him back because he wouldnt sign a new contract as the one he was on was running down.
Wilder got the sack at the time but im sure he was behind this.We didnt want him walking away on a free which he would have been able to do..He did sign a new contract ! the rest is history.
Could be we have a similar situation with Lamine ! European clubs sniffing round.
If he was ready for the hurly burly of the Championship and on a contract things might be different! Thers no doubt the club have been a bit cute about this one ! Is he local ! Foreign !? No information so all guesswork.!

12 players lol

When Marsh has played in the first team its usually been a cup game when Wilder has made 8 or 9 changes
When Wilder does this the team always looks disjointed and doesnt really give the youngsters a chance
Let Marsh play when the better players are on the pitch like Peck like Seriki like Bamford
Im not saying Marsh is an answer to our problems but I would rather have him on the pitch instead of Ayew or Campbell
Same. The job being asked of Ayew - basically run around and be a nuisance - I'm sure Marsh could handle.

Surely a no brainer. 20k a week wages less, and giving a promising young player (how can we expect the academy to be a reliable source of income (as alluded to by Rosen)?

Wilder didn't get the sack. He came to a mutual agreement as he’d had enough, which he now regrets clearly.

But I think there is a difference between giving players 15 minutes to ease them in rather then throwing them into the XI from the off.

another calamitous decision to let marsh go. what we doing?
Don't be silly, that's the Idea of loans to lower league clubs. It's doing him the world of good, our decision now is to recall him in Jan or move him up a division
