It’s been a good start to the season despite all the off field stuff and the poor transfer window.

I’ve big concerns about how we can sustain this, as the squad has huge gaps in it and we have no identifiable style of play or strengths, but have to give credit to them.

Its not a bad squad, Wilder does seem to have been tucked up this summer. And he is now trying to work out how to get the best out of it.

The good news is that he has ended up with a smaller squad (which he wanted) and they do seem ready to work hard for the shirt (which again, he wanted)

Cannon played well last night, his header set up the second goal, his run and finish was good.

If Seriki was fit, I think we look like a much better side last night.

Lots of new partnerships going on, I think we will improve once we see a more settled side and patterns of play.

The only confusing thing for me is Doherty and why he isnt at least starting matches in Serikis absence.

Bring on Wolves, much sterner test. Championship football, its a roller coaster and I am here for it

This season is a relegation battle make no mistake.

Made the point on Saturday that it’s vital we get results against those likely to be in and around us at the bottom.

Blackburn fall in to that category so I’m happy and thought we looked good 2nd half and enjoyed watching.

Wolves Saturday is a match I expect us to lose heavily.

Peck and Arblaster were decent when they were further forward, Wilder might have stumbled on our best three in midfield being those two with Phillips playing in front of our back line breaking up play.

Baby steps. But we hung on and saw the game out after being very lucky to go into HT with a 1-2 lead.

Winning isn’t good enough for some. I always find it funny on the forum and shoutbox that you only hear from certain posters when we’re losing.

It’s like they prefer to see it. If you support a pretty average English club you’ve got to expect highs and lows.

I get trying to stay positive, and the win is obviously a positive, but we were mostly fucking dire. We fluked our way past a team who'll likely finish in the bottom 5.

Take away Peck's little moment and Cooper's saves and the rest of that game was a horrid watch.

"Massive credit to CW" feels way over the top too. Given the tactics and the team we've assembled, it was a good result - but praise this gushing is embarrassing.

I get what you mean but I think you have to see everything in context. It's still early days in the season. But we won't get away with getting points playing that way. Least it has been recognised in the post match presser a bit.

I don't think Wilder thinks this was a great summer window. He's hinted at it already.
My suspicion is the goalposts have changed a few times for recruitment.

For example you've got x budget.
Well not as high as that in fact we need to sell but then you can reinvest some.
Actually no we need to sell more and no you cannot re invest in fees.

Something to that extent. That however is a complete guess.

Given the circumstances and that everybody tends to be able to beat everybody in the Championship scrappy, battling performances may well be our norm this season.

I agree and I said similar on another thread, but what i love with Peck is he's always available for the ball. As he said himself, he should've done better though when the ball was played into him

I don't think that the Donovan pass was the same though, Donovan shouldn't have played that ball into Peck.

Fair post, I agree that the 3 points considering the performance and being only 2 points off top is crazy considering we have been restricted by the board, the manager, and the players. We are not firing on all cylinders, feels like just one rusty old one.

So whilst we are overachieving it's still like putting a plaster on a sinking ship.

Yeah he must have got lucky with the promotions before he came to us as well.

A fortnight ago I felt quite euphoric at the end of the cup match but tonight I felt relieved that we'd got away with it.

I don't go along with all the doom and gloom. Over the years I've seen plenty of wins when we could have easily lost and conversely losses when we should have won - it's just part of watching football.

All the tv coverage and video clips only show highs and lows and we're conned into thinking all matches (apart from our own) are wall to wall entertainment from beginning to end whilst in reality there are long periods of intense boredom. I do find this endless sideways passing on the half way line very tedious though. I understand the purpose behind it and it has been going on for a long time - during the early 70s I remember a Liverpool fan at Uni being mocked about their team passing the ball sideways. We used to taunt him with 'square, square, centre'.

Hardly a strong performance (poor in many ways) but important to get points on the board and points should give more confidence and increase the chance of better cohesion... You'd hope...

2 very big "if's" there imho. Even if we get past fleetwood....the chances of then pulling Bradford are slim. Look at the sides likely to go through....its pretty much a premiership carve-up. Nowt new there.

he's done well to get 9 points from these players from 6 games in. If we play shite like we have and still be near the top 8 come january fair play. Still think avoiding relegation is the goal though.

That's a myth. We still have a core of very good championship players. Capable of playing much much better than we have.

Yes. There's a time and a place for trying to beat 2 or 3 people - and a time for a simple pass. He is exciting to watch though - but needs to reign it in at times.

Well written. I think some fans need to lower their expectations and be realistic. Our season will be defined ny nights like this, not games v Wolves, West Ham, Boro, etc.

The fact that we started with RND and no Seriki means we have slow defence. Lots of teams will tear us apart but Blackburn missed their chances. We defended boldy, broke well and unlike them were ruthless. Away games will suit us better in this respect. At home when we attempt to take the game to the opposition we will be exposed.

Phillips is important to us seeing games out. He needs to stay fit to give us 30 minutes.
