Is it possible for a player to win Wilder over once he has decided that he doesn't want the player? Can McGuinness do this? Are there any past players who have done this?

Coutts, Freeman, Basham were on the move on list. Lundstram, Bogle (Baldock stiff opposition), McCallum. Seriki, A Brooks were all loaned out or took time to establish themselves. There's not really many counter examples beyond L Evans and Ryan Leonard. The others seemed to get a good go and either make it or get moved on in a normal churn way.

We usually move on potential and quality for financial reasons, stick with players for a long time due to their value to us, or persist too long with failed transfers. There's not many "I wish we'd have give him more of a go" players tbh.

I always thought he looked like a decent player but was regularly played out of position prior to Wilder.
Completely agree with the above, was superb for that period.

Coutts did an interview in the programme in which he said he was disappointed in his own level. He blamed it on his physical conditioning and health due to the painkillers he'd been taking due to previous injuries that left one of his legs longer than the other. The next season he was much more mobile and could last the whole game.

Very first thing he did in his first tenure was put K Freeman on the transfer list, ended up having his best season and signed a new contract for another 3 years (where Baldock overtook him). But he still got another 3 years on the back of being transfer listed!
This is one of things I don’t like about Wilder V2 & V3. That flexibility and practicality seems to have totally gone. We’ve bombed a lot of players out recently - the poor AI kids never got a chance, once he’s got his favourites (eg Peck) he’s quite willing to overlook poor performances.

Yep. Got quite a bad injury (dislocated knee) in the first Championship season that curtailed his rise.

Yes players can win managers over, by true grit, determination and working their gonads off.
It's up to the player though and his belief in himself.
The player and the manager. I wonder how many players who Nigel Clough decided he didn't like ever got a second chance.

I think wilder and the team continually look at what we’ve got and try to use them in the best way for the team. Think it was the case with Lundstram, barely used before we got to the premier league and then was the first name on the team sheet.

Hes also not afraid to move players on if they don’t end up being the player he thought they were when he signed them.

I reckon this depends on what they cost.

Cheap/Free players were moved on with haste when it was blatant they weren't working out however we've had some expensive flops that were persevered with way longer than they should have been.

It can also depend on whether we can shift them on.

The AI signings were really bad at football tbf, and Wilder came back in at a time when developing young players was pushed way down the list, as evidenced by how long it took first Seriki and Brooksto become 1st choices.

Peck is really strong and very sel assured character in a squad of shrinking violets. I think that buys him leeway. I think he's going to be a player but hopefully now he has to be more consistent to earn starts
