An example of us selling at the right time though.
What was it 18.5m to sign him and 24m to sell plus add-ons rising to 30m. Not sure if we ever got the full 30m but we will have got more than the 24m given he played in most of Arsenal's games for 2 seasons.

Can be argued that we shouldn't have spent 18.5m of our budget that summer on him. In hindsight I'd agree with that too.

His career does seem to have stagnated

To me - The real moral of the story would be don’t sell him for less than a million quid initially. Then that 20mil could have been all our profit.

Same with will lankshear who’s just been sold for £10mil+ when we sold for pennies in comparison.

We rarely learned that lesson.

Don't think we had a choice with lankshear

First half of the season he was crap what made it worse was that Henderson was so good the season/s before, I don’t blame Wilder for buying because loaning Henderson was going to cost us a fortune as MN Utd were wanting a lot for his loan as Henderson had just signed a big contract.

We'd have not been able to reallocate those funds to improve the squad for a start, but also, a league 1 club would never get £20mill for a keeper. He was only worth that after playing PL football for Bournemouth.

That's if he was even prepared to sign a contract extension with us which, given his later conduct, is incredibly unlikely. We'd have lost him for nowt.

His method may have been wrong or miss guided but he’s played 5 years at the top and played for England.
We were a shitshow and Arsenal wanted him. I would suggest that he only got a bit of a cob on because the club were being a bit of a dick to him. There’s two sides. He had the chance to play on a different stratosphere. I bear him no ill. He wasn’t as good as I’d hoped, got better, was decent. Made us a bit of money. Fuck it, we move on.

Am I miss-remembering? I thought he was dogger for us? Always seemed to dive once the ball had gone past him & into the net!

Late Dive!

I remember him screwing up for a goal while at Arsenal. When the team rescued him he celebrated like he’d scored the winner. Brain dead arrogant tosspot who’s had his day in the sun. At least he’s got the money to console him.

Problem with that is we aren't a major pull for players since if we sell our best we go in the loan market for journeyman topping their pensions up
A hapless state after what we achieved to get to the promised land and it's not all Wilders fault

Went on strike for the WBA game as l recall,to force the move, left us in the s..t ,no sympathy for him
True but his industrial action did leave the stage clear for Michael Verrips to stake his claim for the number one jersey.

So we should be grateful for that……..😳
