Im always a bit amazed how managers use players ,Berge being an example .
He was always most dangerous on the right , just strode past players so easily , sometimes against the best defenders .
Yet managers stick him so far back and central , just because hes comfortable on the ball , a pivot I think they call it.

Reminds me a little of when Micheal Brown went to spurs after scoring a hatful in a forward role only to be used as a defensive midfielder.

Managers do complicate stuff.

I think the issue with Berge is/was - whatever role he was asked to play, he had an uncanny skill of looking like he'd be much better playing another role...

Probably true .

Unfortunately being "good at football" which he undoubtedly isn't enough to fit into a role for many set ups.

I guess he's always going to be a square peg for managers.

I would have thought that the best thing he could do was actually master one of the roles and become pretty shit hot at it.

I found him incredibly frustrating at times because his ability was obvious and he was a rolls royce when he was on it, but too often you forget he is playing, not a great trait in a central midfielder. He is miles better further forward than playing deeper

It’s a weird one as he looked slow and cumbersome, but out paced players. He was better on the right, but quietly effective in the middle.

He was certainly class for us at times but never felt like he was bossing games. He didn’t look lazy, but seemed to go missing doing the Hammond work.

A player that was always going to play a level above, needed better players around him to be at his best.

He's probably now reached his peak

For me, the only time he looked like a Rolls Royce for us was when he had McGoldrick as an out ball and Sharp to hit down the channel....

Other than that he always seemed to look like a round peg in a square hole...

When you've seen TC,you know what a RR looks like in the position and style of what Berge could have aspired to with us,even a Glyn Hodges or a Glen Cockerill would have been acceptable,but no.

Speaking of overrated players, Jordan Rhodes is on that list. Interesting to note that he played 25% of his career games for the porkers and scored 9.7% of his goals, almost Ike Ugbo levels of awful, though not quite Rhian Brewster bad
