Player Suggestion Souttar played and scored last night

Souttar was always going to be a gamble. Now it just appears that it'll be an even bigger gamble

It isn't paying 10m instead of 6m that bothers me most though

It's this repeated transfer market approach of obsessively focusing on one player

Just as no player is irreplaceable, no player is ever the only option for you to sign. We're acting like there's no other CB in the world, and haven't hidden our desperation. And as a result we've positioned ourselves perfectly to be shafted

Such a spend on this sort of player is also hard to justify if we don't have a chance of promotion, which currently we don't
We don’t know who else they are focusing on.

If weve got the dosh and not putting ourselves in trouble im all in. very few CBs better in the division available for the price and we were a totally different team with him in previously. A spine of Cooper, Souttar, Tanganga, Peck, Ohare and Bamford is solid as fuck. We just need to use our attacking loans for proper quality. If we can get this business done think we are better than alot of people have us rated. Nice being an underdog again.

HMS piss the league etc…

A players true value is what other clubs are willing to spend on them. Unfortunately blades desperately need a top end champ CB with experience and Souttar fits that perfectly, so we’re paying a premium.

Saying that…I can’t believe the fee is 10 mil, unless he’s signing a really long contract. 6-7 mil and it’s a great deal that suits everyone.

What worries me most is he’s got zero resale value. These owners are weird. Shoot from the hip in random moments and the bullet normally lands in their own foot.

This does stink of wilder pushing the ownership and convincing them that this season depends on spending large sums on Souttar. CW has got history and seems very competent at convincing thick rich people to spend large amounts of money on half decent championship players.

Awful lot of money when we need a few more elsewhere. 10m is pants well and truly pulled doen
Why do we always allow ourselves to be ripped off😡
30 games in 5 years??
To be fair to Souttar & Wilder. His injury was probably the reason we didnt go up automatically. With him in the team we were averaging over 2pts a game & without him under 2pts. We also conceded double the amount of goals without him in comparison to with him.

Wilder will be looking at that and convincing the board he could be the difference.

Some risk to this but I think this takes our current backline + keeper from a top half level into a top 4 or 5 backline in this division. Happy with it overall should it come off.
It won’t change our league position if we can’t score.

We’ve taken all the creativity and goals out of the team and have replaced them with defensive midfielder, a full back and now a massively over priced, injury prone centre back.

We can’t 0-0 our way to the play offs.

And you don’t think we will sign any forwards to create and score goals before the end of the window?

I didn't realise that Bamford, Burrows and COH had all left.

11 goals conceded in 22 games up until his boxing day injury. 0.5 GA per game

Bet you can't wait for the season to start. You seem pretty confident of success

Agreed but we've 1-0'ld our way to promotion before 😀

Who have we been linked with? Brereton-Diaz, who has more yellow cards than goals across the last two championship seasons?

Accounts for 30-ish goals, where's the other 30-40 we need coming from?

Genuinely baffles me how anyone thinks it'll be any different to last season. We've joined Preston & Stoke.

We also had more players who could create and score now we don’t have any🤷‍♂️

i know people have a problem with the fee. I have problem with almost every fee but me complaining that almost every footballer is now triple what their worth is going to change the market

but I do have stats from the 24/25. pre injury & post injury

Souttar & Anel 11 conceded in 22
Robinson & Anel 26 conceded in 24

thats why we want him. as in my opinion our defence has never been the same

This is one of Wilder’s main failings IMHO and one of the club in terms of the way we attempt to recruit.

It should be: I want an aerially dominant centre half who is 6’4” minimum. I want experience and leadership but I don’t want him past his prime or too green.

The empowered scouting team come back and say:

We have identified 10 players based on your criteria, within a certain price range, captaincy experience, aged 25-29.

Put them in order of preference and we’ll get to work.

I have more of a feeling that United say “we should try and get Souttar back, he’d be good.”

It won’t be that simple but I’d say we are further across one per of that spectrum than we should be at times.
Might be the case on Football Manager or if you have a recruitment model like Brentford’s (which isn’t cheap and gets its economies of scale from other operations).

In the real (rest of the world) the human factor comes in to play and if a player wants to play for your club, because he feels wanted, has the backing of the boss, and enjoyed a successful spell whilst on loan, that has its own set of undeniable logic too.

Rothwell assist for Bamford
Peck assist from a corner for McGuinness
Blaster ball to Donovan, to One, to nod for O’H to notch.

No, nope, no creativity and no scoring.
That’s why Mansfield have a second round tie at Blackburn.

Or ……………. Fanny wipes 🤷‍♂️

League 1 maybe, but we scored 3 with no Hamer or Brooks on Sunday...

I think that's more to do with Jack Robinson being the replacement.

I think all the teams in the Championship will be alot stronger than Mansfield who i thought were really poor.

That would be great if we could play an out of form League one team every week.

Leicester paid 15m for him.

You can understand why they want around 10m.
I couldn't give a flying fuck what the Foxes paid 3 years ago - it's as irrelevant as what we paid for Hamer.
They are in the financial do-do worse than us - which is saying something - and we should pay nowhere near £10m

Literally all clubs bar those in prem, and even then it’s not all of them, get anything back from majority of players they buy

For every one or odd two you sell to a prem team for profit more than often most don’t

The reason we didn’t sell Hamer or McBurnie or moose for big money is there was never any market for them to get that money so we decided to obviously act as we did
And yet we consider paying £10m for Souttar ?
