Player Suggestion Souttar played and scored last night

i know people have a problem with the fee. I have problem with almost every fee but me complaining that almost every footballer is now triple what their worth is going to change the market

but I do have stats from the 24/25. pre injury & post injury

Souttar & Anel 11 conceded in 22
Robinson & Anel 26 conceded in 24

thats why we want him. as in my opinion our defence has never been the same

I don’t think anyone has said he’s a poor player, it’s just the injury record that is an issue and the reason £10m is probably double what we should be paying.

The reason we started conceding more goals was because we had to pick Robinson for the second half of the season. If we sign him and we end up playing McGuinness for half the matches, we’ll be poor defensively.

Souttar is a great Championship defender when he’s on the pitch, he’s no good on the treatment table.

So do you think that we should focus on ,maximising profit from player development and sales or winning football matches?

There's obviously a lot of unknown and unforeseeable variables but if a player will help us to win games, and the owners and manager are happy with the price to be paid and still have the room to balance the squad in other areas, then I think that I'd be inclined to go along with their professional judgement.

We'll win some and we'll lose some on both sides (games and gambles) but that's the nature of the beast.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I can't believe how wound up some "experts" on here get over the financials when they know nothing at all about the clubs strategy or finances.

If these owners have spent over £100m, which we know they have, the they will undoubtedly have a strategy whether they communicate it or not.
This is absolutely spot on. While everybody on here guesses at numbers before accounts are published, we have professionals in the club who know exactly what the numbers are, what the investment budget is, and where we sit opposite current and projected financial rule restrictions. They know who we want, they know roughly what they will cost, and they know what the budget is. I for one hope that they are sensibly maximising our spend ( without creating future risk) in investing in the players that we need right now to deliver on the short and medium term ambitions of the club.
Of course we need to make money from transfers - and we do - but the route to financial growth rests squarely on promotion. Profits on player sales are dwarfed by the rewards of promotion to the Premier League. Folk whinge on about losing money on Berge, Ndiaye, McBurnie etc….but those players delivered financial benefits to the club that are way in excess of what we might have got for them in the transfer market by selling earlier, by getting us promoted to the Premier League.
If we are to grow as a club, we have to increase our revenue stream such that the owners can invest more in playing assets while remaining within the financial rules of the game. Promotion is the key to this revenue growth.
And it isn’t either black or white as imagined by many - we need a blend of experienced pros who’s main value is in seeking to deliver short term success and the financial reward that that brings, alongside a younger cohort of developing players whose growth is of benefit to the club both in terms of on field performance and transfer fee.
I personally think we’re not far off the right blend. We have a nucleus of seasoned pros who have already successfully walked the path that we seek to travel, and a strong cohort of younger players coming through.
It’s football, so no doubt shit things will happen during the season, but there’s every chance that good things might happen as well.

He's just had 2 horrific injuries. If we've checked out his Achilles Tendon and are happy it's repaired correctly, we should be fine.

It's not like he's in and out of the treatment room like Shackleton and Brewster.

For comparison, here's Brewster. A recurring Hamstring injury that kept him out for 596 days over 4 separate incidents

I get he were great for us in his loan spell and all that and we somewhat know what we are getting but i think like someone else said earlier leicester have seen a desperation in us and rightly so they can demand whatever fee they want he's their player. Just the fee and the fact he's played an handful of games so not really shown if he's back at the level he were at before
Do you not think that the 4 games he played for Australia in the recent World Cup were equivalent to Championship level?

Yeh I’m not arguing against any of that but signing someone just because the other team held onto their value doesn’t necessarily mean we are desperate

He is a championship World Cup player who was pretty decent in World Cup so the valuation was always going to be higher than some of our fans wanted

I think we do relatively well on players breaking through and selling on at a healthy price …

Andre Brookes
Will Osula
David Brooks
Harry Maguire
Kyle Walker
Kyle Naughton
Matt Lawton

Potentially

Peck
One

(Fingers crossed neither are sold)

Only off the top of my head like I’m sure there’s more

Until we are CAT 1 - I think we do well

Last treat we had Arblaster, Peck, Brookes and Femi all in the first time which I love to see and can get behind

Agree we have, my point was more it’s not easy producing one that sells constantly to prem league

Every year we see players sold to prem teams, like Hackney this year, and a lot almost seem to then think lots of teams have 5 or 6 young ones on the brink who then get sold on for big profit when the reality is probably different

Maybe if he’d played more over these last few years his injury record could be worse? It also might not be. We’ll never know.

I’d be happy to sign him if the fee reflected the two serious injuries, but it doesn’t. Leicester are taking the piss, let them keep him and gamble with his fitness.

I don’t know if they do with your first point
I believe Grbic had played international football and that he was looked at by one of our former keepers who said buy him, Cannon has been gambled on by bigger clubs than us and you don’t reach that level generally by being a dud
Sometimes players just don’t work out at certain clubs in certain systems, it’s a gamble
We have won fuck all for over a hundred years and not got close bar a few cup semi finals, our various models or attempts haven’t worked so why not try AI

Can’t answer the why so we buy oldies and that doesn’t work but I can tell you I wouldn’t trust them or the prince or Kev to have produced what say Brentford have in past

And that’s even with recognising that we have had a very decent system of producing young lads, we just don’t have that regular production line selling to top teams all time

Eye watering sums for our fans yes, eye watering in terms of what other championship teams and prem teams then no

Half a billion addresses many other things doesn’t it, not just transfers

The owners are who they are, it would be great to have one of us as a billionaire in control but nothing guaranteed there, you saw first hand with Kev and what he had how being one of us guarantees nothing
When they quote the 500,000 figure with no background to it Brownie it is as though you haven't got to pay your players and staff bonus payments on promotion, now it is premier league the wages rise in line with their new status, then the ground has to be improved to premier league standards not to mention once you become a premier league club you invariably pay inflated transfer fees and wages just like Coventry are now especially the new keeper probably paid twice as much as he is worth.
