How come you never mention the ones who cost fees this summer and are on decent wages? :)

To be fair we have spent very little on fees this summer - far less than we might have expected. We do seem to have gone for the cheap option - again - which perhaps explains why several of the new signings can't get in the side even though we aren't playing that well. We haven't even spent a reasonable amount on a much needed quality striker - which is astonishing.

Go on then, just give us one...

Drop us the transfer fee, signing on fee, agents fee, appearance fee and wages of Michael Higdon in here? ;)

How much DIDNT we spend on Higdon, Wallace and McNulty?

Which new signings can't get in the side then?
Wallace - injured
Butler

I think almost all of the rest are competing for starts or bench slots

McNulty, Butler & Campbell Rice can't get in the side. And by that I mean starting 11 - because we didn't need anyone else to sit on the bench - we needed 2 or 3 quality players to improve the starting 11.

Given our support & income, our spending has been minimal.

It may have escaped you but we can only play 11 players at any one time. It's the rules. I think the prince asked if we could play 20 v 11 but the bastards at the Football League turned us down.

So of the 11 starters on Saturday - 6 were new signings.

Were four games in and you've written 3 players off because they're not starting every game. We now have a strong first 11 and pretty much a second 11 too to cover injuries, illnesses, suspensions, fatigue and tactical changes.

Your opening line is bonkers so I won't even bother responding to that.

But no, I haven't written the 3 non starters off - hopefully all the new signings will improve. But the main point I was making - that we have spent little, taking into account our crowds and other income - stands. Compare our investment to Bristol City's, and their 10,000 crowds, for example.

Higdon, McNulty both undisclosed fees and there's a tribunal for Wallace.
Ooh cant argue with those figures , thanks for that forensic analysis of our transfer outgoings swiss .wont hear anymore from me about us not spending now

We are really going for it arent we , think I might move back to sheffield and buy everyone I know a season ticket

You asked the question, I answered. You don't seem to accept that we've paid any fees at all. Undisclosed means that they don't disclose the amount paid.

But I think the accounts will show the total fees paid when they are issued

Whos that then ? Seriously ?

Ignoring signing on fees and the like (as clearly, we don't have to pay those), here's the ones which you could say commanded a transfer fee:

Marc McNulty - Transfer fee
Michael Higdon - Transfer fee
Harrison McGahey - Settlement or fee via tribunal
James Wallace - Fee of which 50% goes to Everton

im not being funny or owt but not one single transfer fee is in the public domain ?

Not many are any more, that doesn't mean they cost nothing.

How much, really, do you think they cost us?

The opening line was to show how daft your statement was.

Just because we've spent little doesn't mean that they're not quality.

Tell me something - why you are so hung up on how much we spend? I'd much rather we spent little and brought in quality than spend a fortune on loaning muppets like Nosworthy or expensive journeymen like Kitson.

Remember we spent 2million on billy sharp, he scored naff all for us, we brought an unfit Beattie back and he did nothing, Brian Howard, Claude Davies, James harper there is an endless list of signings and loans who were expensive and did nothing.

From what I've seen and heard so far, Basham, butler, JCR and the injured Wallace are the players with the main question marks over them as they haven't shown much at all yet.

All of the new signings will get their chance this season, they have to take their chances of course, but to say that because we've spent little it's immediately a bad thing just doesn't have any logic behind it.

Why should they be? I'd say it's more prudent to keep it undisclosed. It's of no relevance to you and I whether we paid £50 or £500,000 for Higdon. But if a club knows how much we got for player x, they may then bump up the fee for player y when we come knocking to buy.

I cant believe we're still having this same debate. Seem to remember one very similar with Lenners way back when.

Free aint free, and disclosed fees do nothing other massage fans egos. Get over it.

As we are at West Ham tonight brings back memories on how we wasted the compensation monies on buying players who did nowt for us,hence why we are a league 1 team. Expensive signings do not guarantee success.

I'm not sure that 'never heard of him' would add much to the debate.

However, I think we should insist on paying a very large transfer fee for him, then he's certain to be brilliant.

Pinchy, I've prayed to the impress-me fairy, telling her that only a substantial fee for Pearce will meet the expectations of some of our supporters. Anything less than a large fee will not be game changing enough for those who consider a large outlay of dosh a sign of ambition. It'll take someone of Fellaini's 'quality' and price bracket to appease our rabid hordes.....remind me, what exactly happened to poor old Marouane?

What happened last time we paid decent money for a Leeds centre half? We got Neill Collins...and at the end of that season we got relegated. I'm not saying that the two are connected - on the whole I think Collins has been a decent player for us - but it goes to show that spending big does not bring success.

I'm also pretty sure that the rumours of a continuing search for a centre half mean that Butler's days as a United player are limited.
