Some of those are just selling players as all clubs have to. Not every sale is that deep, we really need to get used to the fact that we have to sell players to survive financially.

The most ridiculous one was Deane/Fjortoft on the same day.

We've been a selling club since long before I began in the late 90s, as you say it's how a club like ours survives. Some sales do feel like they run a bit deeper though.

Blackman- Moved onto flogging the fixtures and fittings after all the family silver had already gone, a step further into the looming darkness. Decent player mind.

Marcelo- Signs of a potential post Deane/Fjortoft recovery snuffed out after a season, I was gutted.

Woodhouse- Perhaps not as someone reminded me we got Nuddy plus a million !)

I’m not sure how any of this lands at Wilder’s door. He’s arguably the safest pair of hands we could have during a financially messy transition. Any squad needs a blend of youth and experience, and Rothwell and Bamford are perfectly reasonable additions especially on frees.

It’s obvious the owners need to raise money just to keep the lights on. That’s the reality. Hamer who you’ve not mentioned - was in the final year of his deal and wanted out. From what Wilder’s said, Brooks also pushed for a move.

Wilder isn’t sat there saying, ‘Sell everyone, bring nobody in, and I’ll somehow make it work.’ He’s saying, ‘If you have to sell our best players, fine but you need to give me some proper replacements’ That’s a completely fair stance.

I really don’t see why any issue with Wilder right now given the season isn’t underway.

He came back after the window was shut. Kept us up. We had a little flutter with the top six but in honesty the staff were playing catch up too much both in terms of points and also mentality.

This summer we clearly had to raise money. The squad is top heavy. We got an offer of 8-10m for Brooks which isn’t insignificant in terms of keeping the lights on.

Now if he got a similar offer for Chong and McGuinness and then opted to sell Brooks anyway, I’d get the backlash. But he’s managing through a situation. We’ve got multiple players who we’d like to offload to free up wages but we can’t.

You’ll genuinely have fans who say we shouldn’t have sold Brooks we should have waited and then others say we should have sold Hamer earlier so we could make moves. It’s simply impossible to please the fanbase like that.

I’m not averse to criticising Wilder, he’s got a habit of fixating on one player and not shifting; Abdullah said the same on Ramsdale. I didn’t like the Brewster deal for that money and I didn’t like the Cannon deal although in the case of the latter it felt like the Board said they could get him would Wilder be keen rather than Chris hotly pursuing him.

We just need three players in to really make the team tick and they will likely be loans. We’ve only one loan so far anyway.

For all the criticism of youth, it was good to see Oné come on and make his mark yesterday.

It’s time to rally behind the manager and the players now.

Brooks was probably sold with the thinking that he wasn’t one we expected to lose, but he’s hit‑and‑miss, we can replace him, and moving him on helps us keep a couple of others we actually thought we’d have to sell. That’s just sensible squad management.

Hamer is another one where people think they know his “true value” because they’ve played football manager. In reality, there was no other interest, and the club’s policy is simple; we don’t let players walk for free if we can avoid it.

And honestly, I don’t think Hamer leaves as big a hole as some make out. Sometimes you’re a better collective without a supposed “star” player. He struggled with fitness, rarely lasted 90 minutes, his discipline wasn’t great, and he couldn’t get around the pitch the way we needed or the way Wilder likes his teams to play.

Yes, the good bits were brilliant, the magic out of nowhere, the 20–25 yard screamers; I loved all that. But it’s still not a bad sale, and it’s definitely not the end of United.

I was back from Asia during the November/early December period. Gus scored at Pompey but he was very much the icing on the cake. The team were functioning well in his absence. We drew with QPR when we should have won, beat Leicester in an excellent away game, won at Hillsborough, beat Pompey and Stoke very convincingly. It was only a winter virus that prevented us from beating Norwich to be quite honest.

Sad thing is that the one who lit up the game vs Stoke was Brooks! He's also gone, but players leave and it creates an opportunity for another hero to emerge. I thought One was a threat when he came on and despite a lot not coming off, Donovan kept plugging away and showed his quality before the game was over.

Even now that goal by Burrows was such a bullshit decision. How that was seen as clear and obvious I'll never know. There were angles showing the keeper could see the ball when he struck it. It was hit like a rocket. Everyone could have cleared the way to the side of the pitch and there was still no way he was stopping it. Highly subjective and unnecessary intervention; they should have been more pissed off with how poorly they defended the corner.

I know it was only Mansfield but look how organised we were collectively yesterday when defending with 2 banks of 4 because everyone got back in position. With Gus he would likely be the one ambling back on the left side leaving McCallum or whoever to defend that side of the pitch. I would wager against Bochum, that most of their attacks came from down that side of the pitch as well.

With Gus, great player but some sacrifices needed to made defensively at times.

You make it sound like he’s the only player to have ever missed a chance.

He was the most exciting player we had last season, and selling him to a divisional rival was, in my opinion, a huge mistake.

I think we can only really make a judgement according to what we have as a replacement.

It's very, very early days but so far Donovan looks like Brooks did 2 seasons ago, albeit maybe a bit quicker. Does the hard work and beats his man, or even two, before having a complete brainfart when it comes to the final pass or having a shot.

Then we have Chong, who has the odd flash of something really good, before doing something quite daft. But again, he has time to improve with us.

Brooks looked the real deal last season, most of the time. I think he is going to do really well at Norwich, and we might end up feeling a bit sick about this one, but we'll see how the lads do.
