Outgoing? Tom Cannon

There's no movement, he doesn't show for the ball, come short, find space, make a run where he can be picked out.

I’d say that’s on the harsh side, there were multiple spells today where there would be a passage of play where he’d made two or three different runs and the ball didn’t come.

The closest we came to actually looking for it was when he got himself into space towards the left hand side at the edge of their box first half, only the earlyish ball (for once) rather than being in front of him for a goalscoring opportunity, was put across his body and he had to come back and play to someone else, rather than taking advantage of the space in behind he’d “created”.

Cannon is an expensive mistake that the club/owners can't afford at present, both the club and the player need to part ways before the end of the current transfer window. Not sure that the club can bring anyone in at the minute, but it would be better to change shape than continue with him in a two.

Agree with this assessment.

He makes some decent runs in and wanted it & he does make some decent runs and space if you watch him, but sadly for him he was never found.

Problem we got and he has is the pass is on but we dont have the players capable of threading it to him, we never look forward and always take the easy safe option. We need somone brave on the ball who can thread a pass, cannon will feed off through balls from his runs but we opt to go out wide and try walking it in from side or a daft cross (not his game).

Theres no doubt he will score goals if the right service comes, we just dont play that style. Either build a team to suit him and around him & use the tactics that suit him best or get rid if him, as he cant adapt to any other type of game and is ineffective and then bring someone in to suit the style we want to go with.

If he does leave then Brereton makes even more sense and is even more nailed on to sign

He'd more than replace Cannon without being a direct positional replacement
God no. He was shit in that second loan spell and couldn't get in the Derby team by the end of the season. Bobbar.

The issues are less about Cannon as a player and more about why we spent so much money on a player when it was clear from day 1 he didn't fit our system and the manager wasn't going to change the system to adapt to him. I'm sure when he leaves and goes to a more direct counter attack team he'll score a load, but it's another player we've signed for big money where there seems to very little interest outside of our club, which asks the question what did our scouts see that the other clubs don't?

Preston allegedly want him. Is there anyone we could trade with?

If you're "sure" he'll score loads of goals somewhere else you must have been watching a different player to me.

I can't see 1 attribute, in Cannon, that a striker needs to succeed at this level.

I'm basing it on the fact he's scored goals everywhere he's been prior to signing for us, which must be the only reason we signed him. We clearly didn't spend much time watching him play.

Our biggest issue is he seems great at penalties and we don't get them.

Move him to a club that gets penalties and he will score more goals.

Forget we don’t play to his strengths and it’s Wilders fault. By now regardless of tactics or style if he was any good he would have shown us something.
But for me he is neither one thing or the other. No pace no guile no strength no clever movement he’s had more than a fair crack at the whip he’s an absolute proven non firing Cannon.
Any offer to take him should be snaffled.
As someone said on another thread

Tommy Cannot

I’d replace Cannon

Don’t know what wirh but tbh it doesn’t really matter

I'm trying to be less negative and not "pile-in" on players having crap time for us these days, but I genuinely wonder what Wilder must think when he sees this pillock give yet another 4 out of ten perfo

If you are really trying it would be better to not call him a pillock

We probably owe money on him too, would not surprise if he has been touted around for transfer to pay off the debt to Leicester ( i'm only guessin here) and have a little bit spare on the wages front and also getting shut of the useless pussy at the same time.

What does Wilder see that none of the supporters can other than trying to justify the fact that he bought him for an inflated fee. Not bother whether it was £10m or £4m, anything over £1m is a rip off.

You do not spend large amounts of money on a development project

I think he’ll come good. But I also thought we’d beat Sunderland and England would win the World Cup so I’m not often correct

I think as long as we see any player give effort we can forgive anything. Ben Osborn wasn’t a world beater but every Unitedite could tell he was putting a shift in and therefore never got any hammer.
I think you may have a short memory on that as I recall Osborn getting loads of grief about his lack of quality

Wilder see hes spent a shed load of money again on a dud! And like it or not punters, im playing him hoping hes going to pay off!...it ain't Chris get rid! He looks like hes won a raffle to play, yesterday he was shocking again😲

I thought the way Wilder answered the question on Cannon suggested there is something in this story to Preston.

But might just be they've enquired. Can't see them wanting to pay more than a 4m for him. We've likely paid about 7m.

did you think Brewster, Rodwell and Ravel would come good also? i was also in that is it today dad camp.. unfortunately is never was, as they say its the hope that kills you

It’s probably the same as Leicester and Martin saying that Souttar isn’t for sale. Let’s us retain the strong hand.

Well, I hope it is. Wilder Mk1 made some poor signings but he had a real ruthless streak with them. Hussey, Holmes etc - was clear they weren’t good enough and it didn’t matter that they were his signings they were out. He needs to get over this stubborn phase and find that ruthless streak again.

Cannon might be alright in a team set up around creating chances for him. Hes never going to create anything for himself or anyone else. So he’s not going to work for us.
