Can wilder pull off another miracle?

Some right bed wetters in this thread.

Granted we aren’t as strong as we have been in recent years but anyone who takes a look at the players we have at the club and thinks we can go down hasn’t seen some of our players play before or they don’t understand football.

We aren’t going down, not a chance.

The owners are in court soon as they still owe the previous owner £35 million . We have sold our best player for £8 million and Hamer will go too. We won’t spend anything as anything we do get from sales will go into the pot to pay the £35 million. It is obvious. That is why our season ticket sales are down . Unless something very different happens we will be in a relegation battle. Nothing changes at BL . I have been watching since 1955. It is so depressing.
Reading your opinion is fucking depressing 🤔

Can get 40/1 on us going down, you’ll be no doubt lumping some cold hard cash on that right?
I genuinely thought the 22/1 I saw earlier in the thread was decent odds.
I couldn't believe bookies are offering 40/1 though until you said (virgin bet for anyone else wondering).

I don't actually think we'll go down, but I'm nowhere near as confident as some are that we're safe.
There's not a great feeling around the club at the moment. Our two most exciting players sold.
I just don't see where the goals are coming from (or who is creating them).

At least if we go down, 400 notes will soften the blow 😂

Im sure Leicester and Luton fans said the same in recent seasons… both having better squads than ours currently as well.

We scored 66 goals last season of those brooks and hamer were involved in 24 of them, 36%. Another 4 by players that we haven’t yet replaced like for like, that’s 42% of all goals scored last season, gone. Brooks shots on target that ended with a goal was 0.35 per 90, this happens to be exactly the same as Patrick Bamford. In regards to team success, we scored +0.30 more goals when he played doesn’t sound impressive but the differential is without him we conceded 0.42 more. Thats the difference between a promotion contender to relegation scrapping side.

It’s evident the reason behind that last stat is because brooks also had the 2nd highest tackles won in the team (2nd, 42) out performing all players other than his partner in crime Seriki (1st, 45).

To lose that and not add strength to defensive areas is a realistic worry. The stat that is interesting is both Hamer and Brooks only featured in around 60% of minutes available. Maybe we needed more, not less. Seemingly we don’t have any now.

If no more significant signings come in their needs to be a tactical rethink or a major development of players (which wilder alluded too in his presser this morning) this season to make up for just those two alone, because that type of impact lost will almost certainly be felt otherwise.

I don't think Wilder was given enough credit for keeping us up last season ,
It could have gone horribly wrong, even when alot of Blades were looking how far away from 6th we were I was always looking over my shoulder at the relegation places , Unfortunately because of what happened last Summer we are still suffering the consequences going into this season , I expect us to be safe and aiming for top 8 ( play off) , I have placed my bet on us to win the league COYRAWW

On the positive - New year fresh start. Chong looks way better (low bar) than last year.
On the mmm side - We are giving everyone else a 5 week (plus) head start by 'waiting' for the better loan players which may or may not come. Wilder has a new contract despite not kicking on since coming back.
On the Negative side - These are the fuckers that downed tools for Selles. They have been shite since XMas 18 months ago.

At this stage I will say we could be close to the top few, of the bottom half of the division. But time will tell.

Over 100 posts on this thread giving a summary of virtually every player in the squad.

Chong doesn't get a mention (even from a negative point of view)

I agree with your post - 'Chong looks way better'.

In the World Cup (our one and only representative) he was positive on the ball, looking to take it forward whenever possible. He was his country's best player.

On Saturday in Bochum there were often safer square or back passes available to him but he tried moving it forward.

I was disappointed with the Andre Brooks sale but a £3million Chong for an £8million Brooks could prove to be good business.

As will playing Wendy in the third division.
Yeah, something we've never done.

Much rather our journey over the past decade.........

In 30 years time when the next generation look at historical records, im sure our record breaking premier league stint and valiant Semi vs Man City would come above their achievements.

Have a word.

I don't necessarily agree - avoiding relegation was the absolute minimum requirement. We should have got closer to the play-off positions than we did. 30 points lost from winning positions is just not good enough.

I can argue with myself on this ,, I accept your points ,and yes we should have done better ,, less than one hour after full time whistle v Sunderland at Wembley I was confident that not only would we go up last season but would do as champions ,, however , last Summer happened , my reasoning for Wilder doing good on keeping us up was based on the P5 L5 with confidence completely shattered ,, , unfortunately I fear we will still be suffering the consequences of last Summer this season, ,but totally agree the points lost from winning positions totally unacceptable and is probably the top priority this season ( providing we get in front to save them)/

This is getting silly now. Fair enough fans can lose some confidence in Wilder (me included), but to discount or discredit what he did from 2016-2020 is just lunacy.
I agree, but my concern is about what’s happening now, not what happened then. I have eternal gratitude for that period but it doesn’t buy anyone a free pass forever. The old cliche is true - you’re only as good as your last game. For managers and players.
