Let’s see where we are on Sept 1st when the window closes before shaking a 7 , Hamer was always gonna be off with only a year on his contract & I think there’ll be at least one more to go too if I’m honest .

I can only see us buying if we’ve generated cash from sales ( and balance parachute deficit ) the rest were always gonna be loans .

The problem we’ll probably get is we may be playing the first couple of weeks of the season with a weakened squad from sales without permanent incomings as the PL clubs will probably leave it til the last week of the window to finalise their own transfer business .

It’s all good throwing everybody else under the bus, but he should’ve had various offers for various players IMO otherwise he risks the chance which is real of not getting any form of quality required because it all becomes last minute!!

1. We had Gus last season yet we were shite. He won't be greatly missed.
2. That's the main issue for me, centre halves. We're weak in the air, don't read the game and are easy to play through. Fuck Gus, break the bank for Souttar.
3. Another problem as Cannon looks way too lightweight and Campbell is a lazy bastard. If One doesn't come good goals will be hard to come by.
4. Cooper had one injury that he was carrying and that eventually needed fixing. He'll be fine and to be honest, his back up wasn't the problem when he came in.
5. Lack of pace, height and ideas. When we're pressed we're terrible, signing Jairo compounds that as he's way too negative and slow. Apart from Sydie, who's no Trevor Hockey we're very soft.
6. Totally agree that we have no identity. We have no leaders on the pitch and we always appear to be looking at the sideline to know what to do. We score and we stop playing, we concede and we still don't start playing. We're a soft touch and I hate to say that about a Sheffield United team.
7. We only see what we see, we don't really know the feeling inside the club so all we can do is guess. The lack of signings is shocking even by our atrocious standards but here we are, on the verge of a new season so let's see what we can conjure up. Way too early to be talking about relegation or promotion.

Maurice dont forget Cooper ruptured his right knee ACL in 2023 and also did his left knee MCL the same year. Whatever kept him out last year is on top of those 2 signifant injures. Hopefully hes ok this season and I take your point re Davies last season

We've lost some decent players and not brought much in, but we probably won't give the rest of the league a 7 or 8 game head-start this time, so it'll even out.

That side has lost Hamer and Brooks, our two best attackers.

There's still some time left in the window, but we've gone backwards and not from a position of strength.

As we sit here now, there's very little to look forward to.

Hamer is quality but we performed without him at times last season.
We also performed without Brooks as well. We have at least brought in Donovan to replace Brooks this season so far.
Hamer will be loss though from this very moment in time if he leaves. I'd like to see us bring in a proper winger as replacement if possible.

But with some additions (Post Gus leaving and/or loans) we could have a side capable of top 6 or 8 if they do perform to the levels we have seen before or better.
Or we could be in for a tough season down the bottom. Or somewhere in the middle.

Berkshire u r completely correct neither of those 2 players are as good as Berge and Ndiaye....AND....and its a big AND....neither of the 2 players who replace Brooks and Hamer will be as good as Brooks and Hamer. And thats how you degrade your squad. This is exacerbated by some of the money going on 30yr+ players on the back end of their careers with no resale value. So you end up with a worse squad, with older players with no resale value

Its a downward spirall and we know what the result will be if we dont break out of it.

I've bern saying for a long time: adjust expectations, get realistic and accept what we now are. And get behind the lads and the management. They're really going to need us.

I expect little to nothing from Arblaster and Cooper now as they could be anything going forward, especially in the short term. We should have back up until they've proven themselves.

At centre back we're absolutely desperate. None of the current options look adequate, nevermind play off or automatic level. At full back we're ok, albeit Doherty screams cheap squad filler signing. Jairo and Peck are good but we could use another couple in there for depth and competition. Rothwell is another cheap squad filler stopgap that did his better work offensively for Blackburn.

In terms of wide players and attacking midfielders we're desperate. Hopefully Donovan is useful.

Campbell and Bamford have a use but beyond that I have little expectation in the others. One is very young and he didn't start regularly a league below. It's a huge ask to expect him to be part of four strikers contributing regularly at this level.

Any players that come in now ate unlikely to be up to speed so the fitness and depth issues are likely to continue before we even consider quality. It seems to have gone on for 5-6 seasons now.

We can moan, we can praise, but we should always support. Many of us have been through far worse with the Blades - no point yelling and shouting, the team (such as it ends up being) will need our support, as will the manager and his wider team. I'm not suggesting that the anti-Wilder faction stop posting, just that everyone thinks carefully about the best way to have the most positive start to the season we can.

The main one being Brooks - Players' player of of the season last year.

Then there is Bindon - I know he started shite, but he grew into a good Centre-half for us.

Plus we've now lost out on the 5-6 good games a year we'd usually get out of Tom Davies before all his bones and organs would implode and he'd slide back onto the treatment table.

On the positive - New year fresh start. Chong looks way better (low bar) than last year.
On the mmm side - We are giving everyone else a 5 week (plus) head start by 'waiting' for the better loan players which may or may not come. Wilder has a new contract despite not kicking on since coming back.
On the Negative side - These are the fuckers that downed tools for Selles. They have been shite since XMas 18 months ago.

At this stage I will say we could be close to the top few, of the bottom half of the division. But time will tell.
