It's an hour and half easy, each way, in peak time traffic. I like around here and when I nip home for the weekend, I can just be about arsed doing it twice in a weekend, let alone 5 times per week, and 6 times on a match day. The revenue has dropped by that amount. But there's no rule that the wage bill etc needs to be as high as last season

PSG have owners who are among the richest in the world & they operate in a completely different financial universe to most clubs.

Dortmund will no doubt look back and wish they hadn’t let Lewandowski leave on a free, but at the time they weren’t facing financial pressure. They’d signed him for next to nothing compared to what a top striker usually costs, so the risk felt manageable.

We don’t have that luxury. If you’re £10k into your personal overdraft, regularly speaking to the bank about financial issues, and someone offers you £2–3k to clear part of that debt, it’s something you have to seriously consider.

He doesn’t guarantee survival - we finished bottom, and statistically one of the worst teams to ever play in that league.

He doesn’t guarantee promotion either, even in his peak spell with us, we finished 3rd. In my opinion, Ndiaye was the one who truly dragged us over the line. That’s the comparison I keep coming back to.

I also don’t think Coventry are getting the same player they sold. They’re a much stronger side now, so his impact won’t be as dramatic. He’s shown with us that he struggles with the intensity of playing centrally, and as for being a Premier League winger… I’m not convinced.

Yes I get that, but it doesn’t change the fact we’ve lost parachute payments, there’s new league financial restrictions in place & the owners have a winding up order against them due to monies claimed to be owed.

If you are referring to the lack of parachute payments as a "deficit", stop that already. Players we signed to have a go (lol) at the PL for which said payments are intended to cover after we went down (excluding any youth deals and loans):

Slimane - loan to buy immediately on going down
Traore - sold immediately on going down
Trusty - same
Souza - stayed for one season then sold
Hamer - still here
Davies - contract now expired
Grbic - still here but continually on loan

There is just one year of Hamer's wages as a "deficit" in terms of actual money, plus one year's amortisation if looking at book value. As we fire sold everyone else, the parachute money was a windfall, the lack of it is not a deficit. We're now just back to normal Championship operations (which, yes, loses a boatload of money) both in terms of revenue and squad.

Not saying that is a factor to whether he would sign for them or not, but it has to be in Hamer's mind, " do I want another season getting beat week in, week out?" "Does The Blades have a serious chance of getting promoted?".
I get that money is number one priority, playing in the top league on the planet is up there, going back to where he knows he'll be adored not matter what is also a factor. I guess we'll find out in either a new contract interview or returning to an old club interview.
Nice decision to have to make. Whatever he decides it's a win for him.

Hamer isn't desperate to leave and wanted a move abroad but nothing worthwhile came in. It's a move that United are happy to go with so we don't lose him for free. Hamer is very disillusioned with football as a whole and wanted a big pay day for what will be his last big move but this is the next best thing.

It's shit for us because even though he's past his best and in poor shape, he was still by far our most creative player. I don't think he will be a success at Coventry either and I think they'll be surprised at the player they get back. Take a look at his size and they way he played for them in their play-off campaign in 2023. He's simply not that player anymore sadly.

By all accounts he's a top bloke so I hope it works out well for him.

The higher the league, the fitter a player has to be.

Gus is way past Premiership levels of fitness. Yes, he has the skill in the Championship but I agree with you, Coventry fans will be disappointed at the 2026 Gus Hamer if they want to survive next year.

I’d be happy if he stayed with us for one more season.

They are struggling to make signings, and their fans are trying to remain calm with the ownership. 1-2 in so far, neither stellar.
