I don’t mind fans of any club posting on here, if they’re fair and reasonable, it’s the ones who come on (not exclusively Cov fans, well it’s mostly pigs really) and just offer nothing to debate and throw out childish insults.

What’s the point?!

Anyway, think Cov might do ok next year, I expect them to get relegated but don’t think they’ll be threatening Derby’s record.

Let’s not forget every man and his dog was writing us off in 2019/20…

They really are a special breed. This is at least 5 or 6 now that i've seen reference United as a "mid table Championship team".

They go off like they've been better than us for years on end. In reality since they were relegated in 2001 from the PL, they have lost 2 Championship play offs and won the League... 3 top 6 finishes in 25 years.
Add to that 7 seasons in League 1 and one season in League 2... absolute gigantic club

Last year was a anomaly with Sunderland buying a new team and Leeds being one of the best promoted sides in history. To see Burnley be as poor as they were when they were so much better than the 3 who went up last season was just sad to see.

You either have 2 options it seems. Risk everything, spend beyond your means and hope you stay up like Forest and Sunderland or spend sensibly become a yo-yo club like Burnley. I imagine the vast majority of Coventry, Ipswich and Hull fans will be longing for The Championship again by January and that's so unhealthy for the game.

I don’t even really understand what that’s supposed to mean. If we were to somehow win the League Cup or FA Cup this year I wouldn’t be thinking to myself ‘if only Wednesday didn’t exist, then potentially more people could celebrate this win’. It’s really weird logic that doesn’t have any bearing on the actual day-to-day of supporting a football club- one city or not.

It’s especially odd considering it’s coming from a fan of a team who’s spent a significant chunk of the last decade or so not even in said city; groundsharing with either Northampton or Birmingham.

It’s just weird behaviour to think that being the only notable club in a city is some sort of badge of honour- and that’s ignoring the fact that I’m sure there’s plenty of people in Coventry who support a different West Mids team, as is the case anywhere you go.

Ultimately, I’d take having a fierce local derby and meaningful rivalries with other nearby clubs than the weird liminal space that Coventry sits in.

The point was, I wouldn't trade being a one club city with a collective civic pride with have a rival in our own city.

I don't mind Hamer going, I'd obviously much rather he say but realistically, I saw him leaving (rightly so) across each of the last two summers. I expected him to go to a Prem side or abroad, most likely Holland. Now, ironically, I think he is about our level, with his reduced fitness and approaching 30.

What I can't stand, would be him going back to their lot. Not because I begrudge him the sentiment, I get that, but because they've basically wobbled at every single transfer window since he left, telling us that he was better than SUFC and I can't stand how insufferable and immature their lot will be if he returns.

I understand Coventry fans being excited because it's been so long but they'll feel the same by the end of the season. All the promoted clubs are purely hoping for is that one of the established clubs have a shit the bed season like Wolves did.

We have Lampard who is very experienced in the Prem. He is the one choosing the players and the way we play.

Last season Sunderland were favourites for relegation but finished with a place in Europe. I prefer to wait for the season to start and see the players we will have before making predictions.

Yeah I understand where you’re coming from.

I, however, could not feel more differently. Having a rival on your doorstep, sharing your city, your office at work, sat next to you in the pub, or one of your family being a Wednesday fan, some of us are even married to Wednesday fans - the rivalry is etched into every part of our lives.

Might not be everyone’s opinion but to me. the rivalry with Sheffield Wednesday is as much a part of being a blade as going to Bramall Lane every other week.

I actually feel sorry for fans of teams who don’t have a proper rival - I’m sure you’ll come back with a list of ‘huge rivals’ that Coventry apparently share, but let’s be honest these are either rivalries where the other team actually has a bigger rival or (and I’m not being harsh here) ones that have been completely concocted by your own fairly weird fan base that are not reciprocated by the other team.

But each to their own I suppose.
