As fans. We don't know the calculation.

It an hour's job for Bettis to do a spreadsheet based on wages, value, income, ffp rules.
Show which combinations can stay if Player X leaves, and what budget is left for incomings.

Then it's a simple take your pick for Wilder.
I set that out in an earlier post. It's a pretty straightforward set of scenarios

This will prove to be just behind the leaders of the pack in worst deals in the clubs history in my opinion. The obvious ones like Ndiaye, Berge, Beattie are out on their own, but to sell Brooks for peanuts to fucking Norwich... Jesus Christ.
Brooks is the most overrated player I’ve seen at United. He’s a good, streaky championship winger and that’s it.

And in what world is £8m peanuts? That’s a very good championship player in his prime or two good youngsters ready for the first team action.

We needed to sell someone and out of the kind of expected prices and players involved (I’d say Peck for £12m, Brooks for £8m, Seriki/ Hamer for £5m) it was th best option.

We could potentially have sold Cannon & Burrows for an overall fee in excess of that without negatively impacting the squad and the added bonus of a bigger overall reduction in the wage bill.

There’s not a world we be able to sell Cannon for more than £2m and Burrows for more than £5m. I also think that losing 2 players causes so many problems as our squad is small and every loss must be replaced.

I’d also argue Burrows is a better player too.

That streaky winger had some of the best statistics for the championship last season.

Chris? That you?

Superb athlete, great work ethic, wins 1v1, good technically, superb defensively. Was the only viable outlet for huge parts of last season. Definitely the only above average athlete Unitedhad in attack and the only player able to run in behind past Bamford.

All that in his first full season as a winger. He's not 23 till August. Needs work on his decision making and coaching is where that would come from. Something United's manager has confirmed isn't available at United.

“Bang average” lol
If you buy into Wilder as the main reason that United have had any success, rather than the ability of the players then you'll buy into the narrative that ball carrying and winning 1v1 are unnecessary.

The weird bit is the people who don't like him also seem to think he's lazy and doesn't defend which is complete and utter bullshit and is dispelled by watching him play 🤷‍♂️

“Bang average” lol
Maybe I was being slightly harsh as the championship is fairly poor at the minute, but he’s no more than good. And I just don’t see the potential to improve in him.

“Superb athlete”- what? Average stamina and reliability, not particularly quick for a winger.

“Great work ethic”- I mean, come on. The amount of times he’s had his head down or disappeared for long stretches of games (often consecutively) is embarrassing. He hides far too often.

“Good technically” “runs in behind”- that’s the bare minimum.

23 years old isn’t particularly young either.

And are you really questioning whether he’s improved under Wilder/ this group’s coaching?

United are operating from the pov that he's already peaked. I wholeheartedly disagree and can't even see how United reach that conclusion. Which is why I think it falls into have to sell financially or Wilder doesn't want him
True, but only Norwich have paid so only they can overpay: not United.

Average stamina? The only player in the team who both carries the ball and runs off it other than O'Hare, but he's a much more explosive athlete than COH. Of course he slows down after 65 mins, he's had to do 3 players running, plus cover defensively.

Hides? He touches the ball more than any other United attacker, especially in the opposition half

You can not like him easily enough, but the stuff you're putting here shows you either don't watch the matches or just chat shit 🤷‍♂️

The 'bare minimun' and yet streets ahead of the rest of the squad in both being able to run and actually beat a player.

I'm stating that he's improved by playing and Wilder has confirmed that coaching players isn't required at Championship level.

I have no problem debating his end product. That's what will define his career. The rest is absolute nonsense

Agree with most of that. One of the few players last season to get you on the edge of your seat. I'd take issue with your point about his defensive ability though. Often switched off allowing players acres of room in behind. His athleticism often dug him out of a hole and he was also prone to going missing in matches. Didn't demand the ball enough for me either. Sad to see him go but if the price was anywhere near the 9 million quoted then it's decent business in my book especially in our apparent cash strapped situation.

Possibly fair on him not being refined defensively but the effort was always there and he'sstill learning the position. I'll certainlytake his effort over almost every other wide player at this level, especially ours!!

I think a winger is reliant on getting the ball, as early as possible and United have a tendency to hold it in deep positions for a very long time. I didn't see him hide and I thought that for the vast majority of the time, he took risks in possession to try and create openings. But it did take till later in the season for him to really start demanding the ball and showing up in more central positions to effect the match.

Norwich see a future £20m+ player, otherwise they wouldn't have spent that money as a Championship club. If he had to be sold to pay the bills, I hope we tried to sell others first but that's life as a poorly run Championship club. If we let him go because we think it's an overpay, I disagree strongly but time will decide it 👍

Be interesting to see if/how he kicks on at Norwich…they seemed to get a tune out of Slimane and I rate Brooks way above his level.

I'm getting fed up of posting this over and over again, but here we go...

"Andre Brooks combines Sheffield United’s highest progressive carry distance with the most carries ending in chances, underlining his importance as the side’s primary ball-carrying threat. It’s a unique skillset, a physical thing. And we’d miss that a lot if he were to leave."

I had put the Brooks sale behind me. Just read the latest posts and christ it's depressing.

Time for your meds grandad. It's not the 90's anymore.

Could we replace Brooks for £8m, Seriki for £5m, or Hamer for £5m? Of course we can't. You're well and truly out of touch with modern football if you think all of that.

I bet you rate Cannon don’t you?

Streaky winger... You're one of them that probably thinks Hamer was inconsistent when he won Championship player of the year. You show me a winger that doesn't have peaks and troughs through the season.

Mate I can guarantee I’m younger than the vast majority of people here and can’t remember the 90s, or even the naughties.

We could replace Brooks for £8m, easily. Seriki probably. Hamer definitely not, but his market price is dictated chiefly by his age and length of contract.

Good wingers like Brooks have peaks and troughs. Great ones do not.
