Roger we scored 66 league goals last season and Ohare, Brooks and Burrows got 20 of them....who is replacing those goals ?

I get the sentiment re technical players who often flatter to deceive but I have no confidence whatsoever that the board amd our recruitment team will adequately replace anyone we sell. The first sign of that is the likely replacement of Brokks with Sykes which is a definite downgrade.

Ps glad to see you are confident that we are a top end Championship team 😀
I get your point, but using that as an excuse not to completely change our philosophy and/or recruitment strategy is a false economy.

The league is getting more athletic and dynamic as each year goes by. Ignoring this because we have a LB who scores the odd goal, seems suicidal.

We need defenders who can defend. Defend under pressure and can withstand the physical demands of the division. A LB who scores goals but gets out muscled and out fought isn't going to move us forward.

"'The league is getting more arhletic and dynamic each year" have u told Wilder that as he is in the process of bringing old unathleric players in ( Rothwell/Jairo and maybe Phillips) whilst selling one of, if not the, most arhletic players in the team.

Is arhletic arthritic or athletic?

That said, either could apply to our current squad.

That's my biggest worry.

The prospect of entering the season with Rothwell, Arblaster, Riedeweld in midfield with Bamford/Campbell up top is frankly worrying!

Add in Philips and Souttar and we'll end up bang in trouble.

Keep him, give him the chance to put last season behind him. Still think there's a real player in there, scores goals, a free-kick/corner taker. We shouldn't be flogging one of our better players to a side competing for promotion (if that's our aim).

Although not a lot has happened yet there seems to be a bit of a theme in the links in and out

Brooks out Sykes in
Burrows out Coleman in
Seriki out Walker in
Peck out Phillips in

It also fits with Wilders comments about being one of the youngest squads in the Championship and needing more experience. However IF that kind of shift happens and it doesnt result in promotion you lose 4 young fit players and replace them with 4 older players with no resale value (likely on big wages).

This isn't looking unbelievable.

The only additional point is how our next generation of Youngers coming through is looking.

Brooks out Sykes in (don't have a next person through the door for this one...)
Burrows out Coleman in (Harry McGlinchey?)
Seriki out Walker in (Curtis did well for Chesterfield last season)
Peck out Phillips in (Blacker?)

It could be a half decent, realistic plan for a club having to bring in some money, but not sure I have seen any of the next lot being quite ready yet...

There’s a reason West Ham want him and they are better than us …
Because they won't be doing much defending this year so an attacking FB is ideal for them.

We on the other hand, will have our backs to the wall in pretty much every game this season so could do with full backs who can at least defend...

They can't have been watching him on a regular basis. He is an appalling defender.
But if they are going to play him left wing back he will do well. He's got a good delivery into the box and scored 5 league goal last season playing at left back.

If him and Seriki stay id play 3 at the back with those 2 as wing backs as we have no proper wide men anyway now Brooks has gone.

Walker Souttar Tanganga
Seriki Peck Jairo Rothwell Burrows
Hamer or Ohare
Bamford

Bogle proved when he went to Leeds, that you can be a bad defender in the Championship. It doesn't matter that much if your team plans on spending most of its time attacking.

I don't think it's that simple. As a wing back you still have to be defensively aware, arguably more so.You have to be fitter as well, to get up and down the pitch. Burrows lacks both awareness and athleticism.

Crazy strategy

Personally I think West Ham are better than us whether we sell Burrows or not! As are Wolves and Burnley sadly. There's a big hole in our finances which everyone knows whether a fan of the club or not. So we can't be choosing who we sell to in done ways, we just need the right deal financially.

Burrows is a good player going forward but defensively lacks the skills to be an effective defensive full back. The opposite of George Baldock for example, who first and foremost knew how to defend!

Burrows is arguably second choice to McCullam anyway to be frank. I think if there is one player we could do without from the more sellable assets it's Burrows. Saying all of that he could well.score 11/12 goals for West Ham if he goes and then be worth twice what we sell him for but we need the money and West Ham are going to score a lot more than we are. There's similarities between Bogle to Leeds although he was more athletic than Burrows and a tear younger when he was sold.

Bogle is/was exponentially better than Burrows. Anyone who can't see that has their eyes painted on.

Quality makes no difference in what I said. Yes Bogle is better than Burrows, but he is still not as good defensively as he is going forward. Leeds' approach when they signed him masked Bogle's shortcomings drastically, which gave them time to improve him on the training ground.

Were Burrows to move to West Ham, he would have an opportunity to do the same.
