Nothing much when with us other than a few glimpses, but he was very good only a few years ago. Talent doesn’t disappear so the gamble is only his fitness and his desire to make a comeback.
Like all business decisions there is always a risk that the asset isn’t as good or effective as hoped. It comes down to the negotiation of terms, both him and Man City. If it costs us £1 then we can’t go wrong, but if we pay both too much then it is reckless: somewhere in between is where a normal business decision is made.
As I indicated previously if all our acquisitions are like him then we are gambling massively, but if he is just one of 5/6 incomers and the rest are more stable then we should be fine.

What have you seen when with West Ham and Ipswich?

I just don’t think he’s got any real desire to get back into a regular role, he’s not shown a single morsel of desire these past few years, and it could be a pretty expensive gamble in resigning him after a laughable spell with us already. Stinks of the Rodwell/Morrison signings.

Doubt it’d be costing us very little, possibly circa 30K(?) which for that kind of expenditure, I’d be wanting a genuine talent who knows what he is, not a semi retired footballer who’s best experience were getting splinters on the bench at city.

That’s why we are signing him.

Maybe he costs nothing, I don’t know but that loan spell should have seen us distance ourselves from any future move.

But, availability? What do you get a season? Upto 5 loans?

Seems to be the only thing wilder can sign these days. Loads of mid championship players that can do 60-75 mins.

Phillips is a horrendous waste of money and exactly the sort of signing we shouldn’t be making after the cliff edge of parachute payments.

Wilder’s last big project! If he can get him fit to play 35 games or more - he’ll be a hell of a player at this level & will probably help us secure a play off place. Big risk on fitness though.

I actually don't mind the idea of Phillips joining but it needs to be done by the time the players report back to give him a full pre season.
We desperately need 2 centre halves, another CDM (which with ollie and sydie gives us 4 for 2 spots) 2 wingers/ attacking midfielders and another forward.
This would give us a solid start for the beginning of the season.
Fingers crossed wilder would finally get his head from up his arse and look to recruit decent young players either buy or on loan.

The main thing any decent team needs is a spine. We didn’t have this last season and Wilder sorted it as best he could by bringing in Jairo and Bamford.

If this is correct, then a spine of Souttar, Phillips and Bamford is both quality and experienced, which is what we lacked last season.

Phillips undoubtedly has the quality, the question marks are all regarding fitness. Same could be same of Souttar, however that is probably why we are able to sign them rather than someone else further up the food chain.

Also, re: Gus, he really wants to stay but the Turks are still interested, but as we know they don’t have the buying power or player attraction, also his lad is really settled at Birkdale. All that re: Coventry was bollocks, Lampard has no interest.

I’m sure all will be revealed soon but if Gus is wanting to stay he has to sign a new deal to save walking away for nothing next season.
I thought his lad had gone back to Holland with his ex wife but I stand corrected if wrong.
I was told he wants and expects to go but that was before his new partner got pregnant so that may change things.
Phillips is desperate to come and working on all sorts to make it happen so I’ve been informed.
