Alternatively:

George Baldock
Enda Stevens
Richard Stearman
John Lundstram
Clayton Donaldson
Oli Norwood
Dean Henderson
Gary Madine
John Egan
David McGoldrick
Martin Cranie

All signed by Wilder without parachutes - ended up doing ok in the end I think.
(And yes there's some shite I omitted but this was to show you can find some useful players and some gems even without buckets of cash)

Yeah definitely. We'll probably end up between the two though. I think it's harder to adapt when you're used to being able to spend cash willy nilly (albeit on shite recently). Our downfall between 2009 and 2011 was a lack of knowhow in identifying and attracting the right type of player

Always liked him, I saw him play for Harrogate Town when on loan from York in the early 2000's when they were in the Conference North or possibly league below and his physicality and athleticism stood out a country mile. I didn't think he would ever ending up signing for us never mind scoring for us either but for that level a very intelligent player that was underrated

Yeah I think the notable bits from that list are the league 1 gems (Baldock/Stevens/Lundstram) and the experienced old heads (Stearman/Cranie/Mcgoldrick).

If we can find the right mix of them I can be optimistic - I struggle to see where the Norwood/Egan "bigger money" would come from if we indeed have any money to spend - suppose as it did then, it will rely on offloading players for decent fees

We only need a handful of additions, we still have the basis of a squad capable of competing at the very top of the division.

Granted we don’t have parachute payments anymore but if we focus what money we do have on a handful of decent loans and wages, I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t be at the very least challenging for a place in the playoffs.

Yup

But all of those clubs had invested owners in terms of public visibility and clear communication with the fan base

Kevin McCabe was often in the hotel match days and available for a chat most times. It must get you down though, when morons just want to call you a cunt rather the listen to anything you say*

* even if some of it was clearly bollocks!

Happens to me all the time

It depends a lot on who we sell, if we end up selling Hamer and Peck we need to find some decent players from somewhere. Brooks and Seriki are other saleable assets and wouldn’t be easy or cheap to replace like for like.

We'll be fine. Am getting a tattoo of every Championship club & some of those recording specs 🕶️ so we can get an advantage against the competition training without being found out. Might try accents to at a push.

Although I would like him to stay if we can out of the 4, Hamer makes more sense to move on as he will be on higher wages than the other 3, although the other 3 will inject pure cash it will be over x number of years not say £10million from day 1, we would also not be paying the final year of Hamer's contract. Plus I think our academy lads aren't quite yet the finished article for a club to gamble with and them being Premier League regulars, Peck if he went to Brentford for example might find himself on the bench or used in their cup games. Or possibly like Jebbo loaned out for a season. If it was offered I would snap off Brentford's hands for a cash plus loan back deal for Peck. Gives us him for another season plus a cash injection into the club.

I'm hoping my belief that Wilder is better without money than with it is true

The average price for a striker in the PL is around £25 million.
The price for a proven striker in the PL is 2/4 times that.

People look at the Brewster and McBurnie transfer fees and say Wilder wasted money.
In the context of our historical player acquisition price, yes they broke our records but merely reflected the market rate.
Look at Cameron Archer, 6 goals in 65 for Southampton since he left us. Southampton paid £17 million (up to) for him.

When it is known that a club has PL/parachute money available, agents and selling clubs inflate players valuations to take advantage of this.

Simple capitalism in action, supply/demand/price.

I have more faith in Wilder and team, than Selles/Bord/AI with whatever funds are available.

Agreed, though I'm not sure that says we have much expectation in either! Hope in the former certainly , but I'm not sure I'd have either on my shopping list as great spotters of talent.

There are 92 football clubs all seeking a striker who will score a minimum 15 goals in a season and cost less than £ 5 million.

Most we will get for Hamer is 6/7 million we need to find around another 20 in sales
Basically everyone is sellable

True but also will save his wages on top of that and the final year of his amortised payment if it was done over multiple years. Out of the 3 main youngsters, Peck has definitely got the most saleability with him being a London lad. Seriki and Brooks although have been great as a pairing for us, I don’t think as individuals a Premier League side would take just one and play them straight away. If we can offload McGuinness especially this early into his long contract that will be a help. Everyone has their price though and unless held back by injury I can’t see us keeping them for much longer on the scale they are going at, might even see Leeds or Sunderland having a sniff with them staying up
