I know you have to say it's the greatest signing in the history of the world and he will get 40 goals this season etc etc, but looking at his record on wikipedia doesn't exactly look too inspiring.
2003-2007 he played for the mighty Crewe and scored a grand total of 10 goals in 81 games. It does say he started life as a midfielder, so no idea how many of those games he played up front which doesn't exactly help.
Spent the next 6 years playing in Scotland which isn't exactly a high standard, was average to middling then had one good year right at the end and won the pfa player of the year and got arrested for assault (so should fit in well at least). Then scored 14 in 32 for a dutch team that got relegated. Again, the dutch league is not exactly known for it's high standard. The team he played for get an average of 11,000 fans. The stadium only holds 12,000. They finished below such

footballing greats as Cambuur, Go Ahead Eagles, Heracles, NAC Breda and the wonderfully named RKC Waalwijk. It's not like he's moving here from Ajax or owt, he's moving from a team of a similar standard to teams at the bottom of the SPL at best. I hope he does ok, but personally i can't see he's anything special even at this level.
I know everybody will say i'm moaning, so i want to add that he does sound like his style fits in well with the team. I'm just trying to create a bit of balance. When we signed Taylor he was the ghost of Pele on here, look how that turned out. I know records don't tell the story, he must have done summat right to be scotland's player of the year. But how about watching him play first before saying how great a signing he is? He's a cheap gamble, just like Murphy, Scougal, Taylor, Baxter, Brandy, McNulty and the rest. Some work out and some don't. It just annoys me how everybody proclaims new signings as the greatest thing ever before they kicked a ball for us! I hope he gets 50 goals and becomes a cult figure.
