CONFIRMED Michael Higdon

From the clips he can use both feet, head a ball, looks hungry, has a bit of pace and seems to take good positions - he may just be the one :)

Higdon could be a reight gem if we play him properly. He's a proper english striker and a clever on at that. He can be a poacher and he wins stuff in the air from set pieces but at the same time he knocks stuff done as well which will bring midfielders into the game. I think Clough's style of play will utilise him correctly, we don't want any of this long ball up the field to him in hope of him holding it up and stuff because the defenders will be allover him and man mark him out of the game. Get it on the deck, play through midfield, get it out wide as we have been under Clough and we have a goalscorer on our hands i'm sure of it.

Indeed. The Dutch Top Division is by no means shit. Getting 14 goals there in a relegated team is not to be sneezed at. Could be a very good signing.

Calm down girls, i did say i'd never seen the guy play. I never pretended i was Sir Alf Ramsay or owt.

I'd like to bet not many have seen him play either, and don't count a 3 minute clip of his goals on youtube. You could make Alan Carr look like Messi if you showed his best moments in a short clip.

I've seen him play, once for St Mirren and once for Mwell. Not as good as Kris Boyd and will give away lots of free-kicks a la Morgs at set pieces. That said, he's a really hard worker, will terrorise many defences and will allow us to go our favoured 4-5-1. Flynn and Murphy providing width and crosses, Scougs and Baxter buzzing round him. Definately adds to the mix for me, welcome Michael.

Just watched his interview on Bladesplayer. He spoke about how he had to change his style of play for Holland. He said that they still like to play the stereotypical 4-3-3, get the ball down and play style we all know them for which was new to him but he got the hang of it in the end and 14 goals over there against song good teams can't be sniffed at. He is Championship standard if you ask me looking at him.

It's the first signing that has genuinely raised my optimism levels. We don't know if he'll be great or not, but ultimately it's a position where we were lacking in quality so much that any signing had to be an improvement. We are now in a state where the team I believe is good enough to challenge for play offs, and with the right complementary loans, could even push on further.

Hopefully this could be what the team has been waiting for , a focal point , seems willing to get stuck in also ,
Saw some of his goals in Scotland did Murfs play with him there then ,
this was a signing no one expected , well done Mr Clough , does his business on the QT , then says it when it's done ,
Also good work on that cheeky twat from Derby , trying to ride us rock solid for more money .
Said it in another post at last a manager of ours who knows the value of a player ,
and the clubs money .
UTB .

I approve of this signing.

Don't think I can add anything else that hasn't been said already

Aside from anything else, he comes across as the sort of gentleman that will take no prisoners and offer a bit of protective muscle to our pups and slighter players.

We've lacked that since Morgan hung his boots up.

Some people aren't allowed to judge him on youtube, yet you can judge him on wiki fucking pedia, have a minute. What he's done in the past is irrelevant to what he does now, so if people get a gage on how he plays, they can try to tie in whether or not he will be good enough for us with the players we have at our disposal.

On the face of it this looks like a very astute signing.
Time will tell of course!!

Is this signing number 9?

When was the last time was signed anywere near that amount of players before our first match?

I don't know how many did Weir sign. Brandy, McGinn, McGinty, Johns, Cuvelier, Baxter, Taylor.....any more? How many of those remain at the lane :D

Thankfully this lot looked to be made of better stuff.

I'd rather judge a player on wiki fucking pedia than youtube any day, cos it's what he's actually fucking done and who he has actually fucking played for. A clip on youtube isn't worth pissing on, or have you forgot the one everybody drooled over on youtube that made Cofie look like the greatest player on the planet?? I once scored from the halfway line, but if i put up a video of it on youtube it doesn't make me David Beckham.

Have to admit I've never heard of him until last week.

Will reserve judgement. Youtube clips can be very misleading! That's not a negative by the way, merely stating I'll form my own opinion because I don't have one either way.

Talking of Beckham, his long crossfield or down the channel passes were never considered "long ball". I think such play could be used positively in league one if players can reach an understanding about when and where such passes might come. If Higdon has pace, long defence-splitting passes aimed at him could be a useful tactic.

What an obtuse Segway into your tactical opinion that was!

Delighted with this signing, he can score all types of goals i also feel McNulty will thrive playing off of him. I see Higdon being to us what Lambert was to Southampton.

Thats not my point, but think what you want.People can get a feel of how a player plays, albeit more than the 3 minutes you put up on you tube, its just like watching someone on telly ain't it?This is not what i do by the way.

As for wiki, whats saying he's going to do what he has done in the past, you choose Cofie,i'll use Sharp as my example of this happening,Sharp scores loads for a couple of seasons,so people look and think what a great signing he's going to be,then he hardly scores for them.Oh yes,but hang on a minute,it says on wikipedia he's scored loads so why hasn't he scored loads for us,thats because he doesn't play the same way as we want him too,now this is the reason some, not me,may want to look at him a few times on youtube, just to see whether he looks like he could adapt to the way we play.

As for the goal from the halfway line,is it on youtube?:D

He sounds as though he's taking nothing for granted, said the right things on FH.

My favourite scouser already, though it's a very short list :-)

I wondered where he would be on fitness and he has admitted he's a few weeks behind the lads.

I think it may take about 6 games before he becomes effective.

This means we'll probably need some good 20 to 30 minute cameos from Porter until he's up to speed.

Just like his dad.
