I've been wracking my brains, I couldn't place who Higdon reminded me of, then the light came on......Lee Trundle, former Swansea player. Let's hope Higdon manages to give us the threat we've been missing, could be hugely beneficial for McNulty, Scoogs, Diego etc

Let's hope he can 'get up to speed' quickly...we're going to need yet big feller!

Well done Blades!

Glad I read that - exactly same here too and couldn't think!! Had some good banter with Trundle when he was sub for Swansea etc.

Higdon brings some much needed size not many will be able to win a battle for the ball with this guy.Good signing Clough, go save that fella from Cardiff now and we're going up.

never heard of him, but im over the moon we've got another striker in at last!

This one signing could prove pivotal to this season's expectations. I know it's easy to get carried away and apply too much pressure on one player, but this guy strikes me as having the necessary confidence and technical nous to be the difference that adds that missing outlet we've been desperate to have in the side. We've got the creative talent, we just need a leader to not only finish off moves but to act as a distraction for the opposition, could prove the best bit of business the club's done for ages, let's hope so! UTB!!!

At last signings are starting to make a bit of sense. Clough likes to play in a certain style he openly admits that and the players he has signed fit his style of play I think. This could well be a right signing. He knows where the net is and with the quality of crossing that we have produced he should have a field day.

I know you have to say it's the greatest signing in the history of the world and he will get 40 goals this season etc etc, but looking at his record on wikipedia doesn't exactly look too inspiring.

2003-2007 he played for the mighty Crewe and scored a grand total of 10 goals in 81 games. It does say he started life as a midfielder, so no idea how many of those games he played up front which doesn't exactly help.

Spent the next 6 years playing in Scotland which isn't exactly a high standard, was average to middling then had one good year right at the end and won the pfa player of the year and got arrested for assault (so should fit in well at least). Then scored 14 in 32 for a dutch team that got relegated. Again, the dutch league is not exactly known for it's high standard. The team he played for get an average of 11,000 fans. The stadium only holds 12,000. They finished below such  footballing greats as Cambuur, Go Ahead Eagles, Heracles, NAC Breda and the wonderfully named RKC Waalwijk. It's not like he's moving here from Ajax or owt, he's moving from a team of a similar standard to teams at the bottom of the SPL at best. I hope he does ok, but personally i can't see he's anything special even at this level.

I know everybody will say i'm moaning, so i want to add that he does sound like his style fits in well with the team. I'm just trying to create a bit of balance. When we signed Taylor he was the ghost of Pele on here, look how that turned out. I know records don't tell the story, he must have done summat right to be scotland's player of the year. But how about watching him play first before saying how great a signing he is? He's a cheap gamble, just like Murphy, Scougal, Taylor, Baxter, Brandy, McNulty and the rest. Some work out and some don't. It just annoys me how everybody proclaims new signings as the greatest thing ever before they kicked a ball for us! I hope he gets 50 goals and becomes a cult figure.

Well I'm glad your immediate reaction was to try and research how shit he is! Time for a new hobby perhaps?

Finally a signing i'm really happy with.Patience was the word and mine was drying thin ive got to be honest, but i was trying my hardest:)hopefully this signing can shut alot of us up including myself;)get me Coady,Brayford,Messi,Rodriguez and Ronaldo then and only then you can shut me up for good:D

any idea why Higdon's squad number only has a prostate cancer man on his number 2? I thought these were gonna be on all numbers, have we run out of them already?

Does the fact that he scored 14 in a relegated outfit not show that he's got something in him?

Having watched his interview on sufc site, I think his up turn in form coincides with the birth of his child who is about 4. Sometimes it takes something like this to change a man.

Yeah course it does. All i'm saying is he has never played at a club anywhere as big as ours, people are talking like he's a legendary superstar. Anyway it's not all about goals, especially in our system, it's more about movement. Which i have no idea about cos i never even seen the guy play! He could come in and score 5 goals all season and do great if he's causing havoc and other players are picking up the pieces and scoring. I'm hopeful he will do well, i don't think it does take much cos the rest of the team looks pretty solid already. Just wish we had Coady more than anything.

Hopefully more Ships than shit!

That would do for me! He doesn't have to be a world-beater, just a big presence up front that can hold it, bring the midfield into play high up the pitch, get on the end of a few crosses and chip in with a dozen+ goals in the stylie of Neil Shipperley.

1 in 3 over an 11 year career isn't exactly bad is it? That's 15 goals over the season.

Note that he hasn't been a striker thoroughout his career, he converted from midfield. In this case, the fact that he's been fairly prolific, in a higher leagues than ours for the last 2 years, says an awful lot.

The top Dutch league is a much better standard than our 3rd division. Notching 1 in 2 there for a relegated side is more impressive than doing it for the title winners.

Add to that that he's a "big man" who can hold the ball up, something we desperately lack right now, and I'm happy with this signing.
