He was asked the question by the compere and he responded with how happy and settled he is in the area and how his son loves the school he's at. He then said it's not up to me, you need to speak to the table in the middle over there (where Bettis was sat).

I’m not convinced by going back to a back 3 if I’m honest. The clamour for 3 defenders masks how shit ours have been this season imo. When we had Souttar and Anel we weren’t looking back to 352 and we certainly won’t be signing Bash and JOC this summer.

Most top teams play a variant of 433 / 4231 which can expose a back 3 with a wide player getting in the gap between the wing back and the centre backs. We saw this a lot during our relegation from the prem. once we’d been worked out teams left pace hugging the touch lines and as soon as we conceded possession they were in down the sides.

I’d just like us to sign another natural wide player, keeping Brooks. I’m disappointed we never got to see it last season with BBD or Raj Sakyi on the left, Brooks on the right and Hamer in the middle.

Playing him centrally will mean he isn’t having to track an athletic fullback or winger back into his own half as often. His pressing responsibilities would be onto a defender or a defensive midfielder. He wouldn’t then be leaving borrows / Mcallum exposed to a 2v1.

In possession he constantly wanders inside, which also leaves Burrows /
Mcallum isolated without the option of a pass down the line / overlap. He isn’t fast enough to beat a man for pace - let a natural winger do that. We’re so unbalanced as a team with him as a faux winger.

Playing centrally he can wander side to side and take the ball from the left or right and gets our most creative player on the ball more and hopefully also into more goal scoring position.

I wouldn't be against that (ie get rid of Matos and give his wages to Hamers ) However id have a weight and discipline clause in there to make sure hes fit and available on his higher wages !!

Move him inside give him a free role as mentioned and make sure he gets on ball in final 3rd. Let him float about, somewhere that it doesn't hurt us with his lack defensive duty.

They would be my preferred options of lineup/system too, although I think when I suggested the latter recently, it was shot down - and I can remember why...

Yes. We need to bridge an income gap of around £30m. Some of that will come through wage savings (~£5m on the three released so far), some through Hamer (probably) but that probably only covers half of what's needed. No - NZ has played 1 minute for Genoa since moving so the chance of them taking up a €5.5m option (as reported by Fabrizio Romano) is minimal. That would give us around a €3m (£2.5m) profit, FWIW.

3-5-2 is fine. But wing backs need to be physically able and have a .motor on them to defend. Burrows is certainly not that

Correct. The Wilder/Knill innovation wasn't only something brand new, it was awesome to watch and was very successful from L1 to the EPL.
Then came the shitshow Covid season and all of a sudden it was Wilder's tactics that had been found out and this brilliant formation and new style of football that got the better of a lot of EPL teams was now defunct.
Wilder 2:0 seemed to agree and went a different route, first season back we were effective but dull to watch and although close to a Play off win we achieved nothing. He's tinkered with the old system at times as Wilder 3:0, even recently but it's like he's a former champion that no longer believes in his winning strategy.
I say recruit to go again, we didn't have the cash back when this brilliant innovation started back in L1, likely we won't have much money to recruit for next season.
One real positive for Wilder is he's spent buttons much better than gold over his career so don't abandon the best footballing system I have witnessed in over 40 years of watching the Blades. Get the players that fit the system (like JOC/Baldock/Bash/Duffy/Fleck/Norwood etc) all inexpensive but could play in this system (they are out there).
With smart business this summer we can do what we did back then to devastating effect, playing a brand of football that at times was unplayable.

Normally I’d agree id like to think we could have a far fitter squad next season but Gus is built more rotund I wouldn’t want to change him for the sake but yes he does need more fitter.

There is not a chance on god's green earth that he is here beyond the summer transfer window in my opinion. There's just far too many factors pointing towards him leaving

• New contract would be for wages we'll not be paying again unless we reach the prem.
• He's in last 12 months of his contract and I can't see a situation where Wilder/Bettis lets him walk for free.
• We need money to balance the books/rebuild the team.

Add into that the fact he may want to leave for family/professional reasons then I just can't see how it can happen.
