I'll be sad to see Gus leave (assuming he is off this summer). On his day he is a wonderful footballer, capable of little bits of magic and certainly our most competent scorer from outside the box.

I wouldn't want him to be "forced" to stay becuase that runs the risk of him sulking and downing tools next season waiting for a free the following summer. We won't get anywhere near what we might have got last summer for him, but I think it was the right call then as we reasonably had expectations of challenging at the top after coming so close at Wembley.

I think given the need to balance the books there might be a few big name outgoings this summer. If we get £8m or so for Hamer, I reckon we'll sell. I hope it's NOT Coventry, cos their fans are insufferable twats who will come crawling all over here gloating if he does go there.

I think what people are worried about with Gus and there's no argument he's a very talented lad ,is his motivation ,his fitness levels ,he did down tools in pre season and before wilder came back .is it time to part company if there's a decent offer on the table who knows .
Give me a half fit Hamer over a fully fit clogger every day of the week.

His season this season reminds me of Lundstroms last season. So much ability little impact. Criminal really

But he has had impact. It’s just frustrating that he operates below his potential.

My definition of no impact is Chong. A player who seemingly cannot shoot, cannot cross and doesn’t offer much going the other way.

This is actual footage of Chong approaching the opposition penalty area:

If he had the motivation to match his talent he wouldn't be playing in the 2nd tier.

He can go for me. If we get 5 million, that'll be about right. His heart isn't in it, just part of the changes that need making. Wilder hasn't called him out all seasons he gets a free ride

Not a 'Sheffield United player' in my books. Momentary show pony and that's all now.

Thanks for the memories but I think he'll be gone.

Can go for me the team needs a big refresh
Why does he always look overweight? Literally paid thousands to be fit.

Oh yes. 16 goals and assists combined - same as last season in 1,000 less minutes. Most assists in the Championship. What a waster.

I am at a loss as to why so many people undervalue Hamer.

I want to keep him because I like watching him and it will be beyond us to replace his goals and assists.

They’d obviously rather see a team of Rothwell’s and Shackleton’s.

Selling our most creative player because they think he likes a kebab and has a bit of chub.

I’ve come full circle on Hamer and decided we should learn from Berge & Illiman and let him run down his contract here.

There’s no way our current recruitment brings in someone with the same creativity. He’ll be replaced by a grafter that gets the club.

Bring em home or grafters come first

I agree, except club needs the cash to replace the other 18 tosspots we need to get rid off

We could never replace a player who tosses away possession at the rate of knots that he does even if we signed two nick Montgomery's to play in his position

I think analysis of Hamer should start with what he does well, rather than what he doesn’t.

he does lose the ball a lot though. So when he goes the likes of Chong might have twice as many opportunities to create bugger all.

Surviving harsh winters through a maintained regime off fat storage. ?

I have the poster you’re responding to on ignore, but if the criticism is that he gives the ball away too much, that’s because he actually tries to play it forwards.

Players taking risks are always going to have more things not come off than the safe and sideways players.

Only in the world of Sheffield United is forward thinking and creativity seen as a negative trait.

The post below sums up the stats for Gus following yesterday’s game, I’d rather have Gus, CoH or Brooks in the team than some of shite cloggers we have as alternatives.

With McCallum in the side I think down the left would be best, otherwise potentially behind Bamford but not bringing Chong into the mix.
McCallum definitely strengthens us on the left, but would still be doing the work of two men.
I suspect we'd probably get the best out of Hamer behind Bamford in essentially a free role in a 4-4-1-1.
But then, O'Hare on the left wing, or left out (if CW surprises us and signs a left-winger)?

It would be nice for some round pegs for the round holes for a change or at least someone half decent. Not sure if One is up to championship standard yet but he played on the left for Lincoln a few times. It’s better than the current subs of replacing Chong with Ings and other crazy ideas. But yeah I think you are right if he stays he would be of value in both service and shots. If we are only getting £5mill it depends on how desperate we are to offload his wages as that’s the only benefit as it wouldn’t be £5mill up front this season probably looking at it being paid over 3 seasons
