#sufc NC says should transfer for Freeman and Bennett go ahead he still wants to add another striker. #twitterblades

#sufc boss NC says its unlikely they'll sign anyone before the weekend. But he's happy with options currently available. #twittetblades

NC says he still wants to add another striker!!! o_O

Now where have I heard that before?

A couple of concerns;

I'm not sure why we're looking at loans like Mason Bennett when we have players like Diego knocking on the door.

"he's happy with options currently available".....I was dreading that statement so near to the start of the season and without a decent striker addition.

From his interview it sounds as though the clubs of the targets we're seeking have inflated the price following the Maguire transfer, NC said they're aware we've got cash in ("though not as much as Hull put out") and we aren't prepared to pay more than what we feel a player is worth, won't be held to ransom etc.

Interesting that the Bennett signing is an add-on to any Freeman deal and won't happen if Freeman doesn't sign. Not sure if that's a threat on our part for Derby to ease up on the Freeman deal - I know last month NC said it wasn't happening due to the price they were seeking, so perhaps that's the issue here again.

Different types of player aren't they? Bennett adds some extra physicality, which Porter aside we lack. Think this is a nice-to-have extra option rather than the top target.

On his quote, I wouldn't read too much into it. All part of the manoeuvring of clubs in the market - if we say we aren't under pressure to buy, makes it less likely we're held to ransom. I hope...

..
Ah yes, Porter's "physical side". I somehow missed that. :D

I'm assuming the reason he was left completely unmarked by a Champions League defence tonight was that they were intimidated by his brute force.

No, it was his lightning pace that left them behind. :)

The standing ovation he got tonight was like he scored an unbelievable hat trick to get us promotion,a bit ott if you ask me.He might have scored but it was only a friendly and i can't believe reed didn't get a bigger ovation,he showed some real quality and composure at times of which Porter can only dream of.

Yep, he's entering a sort of "comedy genius" phase where his shitness is somehow being seen as a worthwhile sideshow. It's slightly amusing, but slightly alarming in that it may be being misinterpreted as genuine respect.

"I'm happy with the options I have"................shudder!

He's turning into Bob Booker MkII. A limited player, but apparently a decent cove...

Shock development! - Blades player scores against Fenerbahce, yet the main reaction is to take the piss out of him for doing it and continue to slag him off.

It's becoming pathetic in all honesty. Who was our leading scorer last season? Remind me.

Porter is going to score 30 goals for us this season, unless Fenerbache sign him for 5million in the next few weeks.

He's earned a nice wedge over the years for being the shittest striker we've ever had. I doubt he will mind the ribbing too much when he's checking his bank balance. He's probably laughing about us giving him a new contract as much as we are.

He gets away with a lot because he works hard and tries his best. Doesn't alter the fact his feet are on the wrong way round. Fair play to him, Heskey made a career playing in the top flight and for England being shite. If you can get away with it, why wouldn't you?

Ah, the old "clubs think we have money so put the price up" excuse. Haven't heard that one in a while. Do they have all these excuses in a computerised random excuse generator?

Porter is a long way from the shittest ever.
OK, he's not Deano, but think about Duggie Brown, Don Peattie, Paul Williams, Chris Guthrie, etc., etc. Craig Beattie or even Billy Paynter if you include loans.

Got to say I read that and thought this.....

Don't take the piss,he scored a goal in a friendly:rolleyes:

Just as his comedy no show at Burton didn't affect my judgement of him, his 2 or 3 worthwhile touches (in between zero movement) last night didn't either.

I was actually reacting to those still trying desperately to convince others that he's a worthwhile squad member. They, and you are entitled to that opinion. I'm entitled to state that he really isn't, and that we're at our lowest ebb because too many people are prepared to put up with such complete shite.

Our lowest ebb???? I'm feeling quite optimistic.

Our lowest ebb???? I'm feeling quite optimistic.
So am I, but it's all relative. We're entering our 4th season in the 3rd division. You may argue dropping to the 4th was the lowest, but as a now established position, this is as low as it's got for me.

If we don't go up this season, any optimism will be completely evaporated. I see no room for passengers.

Good God, to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Unholy Trio of Shiteness (Brown, Peattie and Williams) is some achievement! Did you actually ever see Duggie play? I thought they'd shaved a chimp and put it in a red and white shirt (apologies to Cheeta who probably could kick a ball).

Aye, I was raging when he headed the ball into the back of the net, it reminded me just what complete shit we have to put up with.

We need better, we need more options, but I don't see why that means we should take the piss when he scores (as he seems to have a knack of doing when we actually create him chances).

I'm not saying he's good enough, but those who call him the "shittest striker we've ever had" really can't have seen many years of Sheffield United forward play.

Sorry Foxy, it was just a friendly. We're in the 3rd division, again. That's what counts.

I've seen many more years than you, and he's right up there with the shittest forwards we've ever had. There are some shitter, but not many

Wish I'd remembered that at the time! Then I could have had a pop at him from the stands.

...and so therefore you agree with the point I was making?

It's all about opinions, but in my opinion, he's far from the worst. He's also far from the best.

He is however, the one who gets laughed at for scoring (you know, that thing some people say he can't do) and the favourite one singled out to be at fault for our position.

But what the fuck's happening with Freeman????

Seems like this is the situation.

SHEFFIELD United manager Nigel Clough says the Blades' moves for Derby County's Kieron Freeman and Mason Bennett are in the balance.

The Blades have been trying to sign Rams full-back Freeman and bring in striker Bennett on loan.

But Clough said: “We’ve hit a few obstacles with Kieron.

“If we do a deal then it has to feel right for all parties concerned. We’ll sit down and have a think about things over the next 24 hours to see what we can do and if we can get over them. They’re not insurmountable but we can’t guarantee anything.

“Being able to get Mason is part of the package so, if we can’t get things resolved with Kieron then it could prove difficult to bring him here.”

Bennett recently agreed a new four-year contract with the Rams.

“We want to bring Mason here because we’ve worked with him before and we know all about his attributes,” added Clough. “He’s quick, he’s powerful and can be very direct but, if it proves impossible, then we’ll keep on looking knowing that we’ve already got some very good forwards here.”
