Not a hope in hell of him playing for England, he has no pace. People say Bobby Moore and Jack Charlton had no pace and they won the World Cup for us, but the game is very different now. Pace is king up front and I think young Harry will struggle in the top flight with quick thinking as well as quick footed players.

However, He reads the game well and he's good in the air.
He can bring the ball out of defence sometimes deep into the opponents half and has decent control over it, he can then pass it off to a more creative player which doesn't faze him like some Centre Halves who get nosebleeds when they get 35 yards up the pitch.

He's also very likely to bang a header in from a set piece. Scored seven for us last season (I think) which is pretty good for a Centre Half.

Just after we made it 4-3 in the dying seconds at Wembley he carried the ball all the way to the edge of Hulls penalty area but he wouldn't shoot in spite of being screamed at to have a pop, he looked for a pass and the chance was gone, if he'd smashed one into the top corner and made it 4-4 he'd have been an automatic 10 million pound player.
Mind you if he'd done that about 34,000 Sheffield United fans would have been arrested for invading the pitch, moat, dug out, players tunnel and TV broadcasting room, so maybe just as well he didn't all things considered.
Like the post jj,but i'd just like to say,he could bring the ball out of defence for us in league one,but he won't be able to do that in the prem.

Eyup lads, Hull fan in peace. Now i must say i don't know anything about the lad Maguire, i didn't even notice him at Wemblee. But having read through this thread, i can see a lot of you aren't too chuffed to lose him, even though the price (anywhere between 2 and 3m) is a very good one for a div 3 defender.

Some of you even believe he might play for England ??? Now you do realise we have signed him as a development player ? Now this won't mean he'll play in our reserves, as our reserve set up is frankly pathetic for a prem club. As you will know, we are in the Europa league this season, and that's where Harry will get his games,as well as the other cup games.

In those games he'll have to rapidly show he is even ready for our bench. Before he can even think about getting past Davies and Chester, he'll need to get past Paul Mcshane, Alex Bruce and possibly, Brede Hangeland. Harry has a lot to prove.

Anyway, if he's anything like as good as Stephen Quinn, we'll be more than happy.
Felt a bit uncomfortable reading that
It just comes across as boastful insensitive showing off from a fan of an ugly club with an ugly kit in an ugly part of the world with a ridiculous nhl style name

Wasn't that comment prior to Harry throwing certain toys out of his pram?
That's changes the game somewhat.

Their position of being under no financial pressure to sell seems to still fit. That was easy to stick to while Maguire appeared as though he'd see out his existing contract without fuss, but given that appears to have changed the past week he has now been sold for footballing reasons. We very clearly did have a choice - keep an unhappy player for a year and hope it doesn't affect the team spirit you've built or performances on the field, or sell up now and remove that possibility completely.

The key question is had Maguire not changed his position and pressed for a move, would we be in a position today where all Hull bids were turned down and Maguire was still a United player? If the answer is yes (and I think it is), then he's been sold for footballing reasons, with the club deeming that it would be more harmful to our prospects next season to keep him rather than get rid.

Haha, that was a great semi final, Yorkshire did the neutrals proud that day. Thank you for the insight, and good luck for next season. You appear to be favs ?

Admit it, you can't write that without laughing yourself. :D

Fair play about the premier league place, but with your plastic identikit stadium and horrendous renaming plans (Hull Tigers - really?), don't you ever wonder if it's all worth it?

When I get invited to go on Room 101 I will be sending in fans who not only go on other clubs' message boards, but post on them too. They only make it worse when they say ".... fan in peace here."

Peace don't come into it. Now fuck off!

Arf, that's a brilliant post alco ! The stadiums a nice place to be though to be fair, you might have one like it yourself one day. As for Hull Tigers, they don't exist, thanks to fans like me.

I'm not having Hull paying that much more than what we COULD OR SHOULD have offered either,if you want to keep your best players, you pay for it.No,we don't want to do that do we:rolleyes:

I am afraid it is not as simple as that. We just can not compete financially with the likes of Hull, or for that matter any premiership team. Sky & TV money is so great, a years income is worth more than our club lock, stock and barrel. Norwich got £50m+ last year from TV money alone. I heard they received more last year than Man Utd. made the year before for winning the thing.

It is not simply a matter of just paying, the FFP rules wouldn't allow us to pay as much, I am guessing, but I bet Harry is now earning £1m minimum a year. The average Premiership player earns £30k a week????.

This level of wages is not possible and would breach all the pay structures within the club, it would cause division and resentment among other players. You have to have a pay structure.

It is also no good saying, well he had a year left on his contract. The only way to maximise the benefit for the club was to sell, when we had a chance of getting a reasonable fee. Wait till the end and it would have been in the hands of a tribunal.

Do you think any employee would put their best foot forward if you made them stay and miss out on fame, glory and millions of pounds of earnings, it is a hopeless position from the clubs perspective.

It is the face of modern football.

Why would we want an identikit plastic bowl when we've got Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane (which, by the way, is 7,000 seats bigger than the KC)?

Well now Greenwwich, peace should always be at the forefront of our minds. I love you as a human being, a football connoisseur and a Yorkshireman.

Let us be friends.
