Wilder is obviously the benchmark and he’s worked absolute wonders to get something out of this season. I didn’t actually want him back.

Came in early enough to get us in the play offs but early results were disappointing

Been good since November though and the regular 3 goal hauls are quite a departure from what we've been used to. I said when he came in that making us better to watch would play a big role in determining fan approval and I feel we have very little ground for complaint on that front

We might not necessarily have a worse squad next season. We can also hit the ground running and be without the handicap. I'm confident we'll be competitive in the 5th-10th range, whether we're capable of more will depend on the strength of the relegateds

I don’t work in football recruitment so i sadly don’t have the time to throughly research other managers. But I have seen enough of our games and post match interviews this season to know Wilder isn’t the future.

I can’t argue with any of that in terms of what we could’ve attracted. It’s worth keeping in mind though, post Hecky, that I don’t think the Prince really wanted to sack Hecky, but felt he had to change things because of how badly we were doing. Again, at the time I don’t think there was too much objection to that.

Wilder coming back in post Hecky, with a full rebuild in that summer was probably right. Wilder had the experience of the club to do that and I think it proved right given how well we did… but for an exceptional season for Leeds and Burnley we’d have got autos. So I think it was justified in what he did.

The thing which the OP is suggesting now, again after Wilder turning things around and stabilising again, is to replace him. Ok.

It doesn’t need a degree in recruitment and a masters in manager options out there, but it would be good to know what direction he’s suggesting we go in. We tried different directions - Slav and Selles and we either didn’t back them or backed them blindly with Bord’s data experiment.

So, anyone can wildly suggest to bin off the current manager, but where do they want us to go…. Because it’s easy to fire but takes more joined up thinking to suggest the next man and the OP isn’t able or willing to do that.

With this squad and depleted finances next season, you have to be realistic, Wilder is for certain best man, take us forward no, stabilise us for a period yes.

Take us forward is going to need a huge injection of cash - isn’t happening.

Selles was no great shakes but he was hung out to dry. The infrastructure at United is tinpot, it needs a Wilder to hold it altogether with sticky tape and blue tack.

The job he is doing/ done is off the scale- realise what you support.

Ok back to the OP, time to prepare for
next season. Firstly let's stop the shit on Wilder as whatever your view hes going nowhere.

Re the team, now is the time to play our players and decide who we r keeping and getting rid of and get the ones we are keeping embedded into our way of playing.

That means Rothwell needs regular games so he can hit the ground running next season. Drop Bindon ( unless we r sure we r signing him in the summer) and bring McGuiness in to see whether he can cut it at this level or if he's going to be one of the casualties. Give Faxon some game time to see if hes good enough to back up Cooper or whether we need to move him on. Give Chong an extended run to see if hes good enough and decide which of Cannom or Campbell we r keeping and getting them more minutes as we cant carry both of them next season.

Three or four good additions and a proper pre season and w will be able to challenge for top 5 next season. If we arent doing by Xmas that's tje time to have the Wilder debate
