14pts away from autos, 11 pts away from play-offs.

Easy to say if only. But ffs if only we had held on for the win against Wrexham. Well, not even held on, just carried on playing as we were.

Play off are definitely a realistic prospect. Barry is back/going back, get shot of Godfrey and tbh I wouldn't be arsed to see Ogbene go back either. That frees up 3 slots for quality loans.
We’re Sheff Utd. We are far from perfect. No player we have is perfect. What we can hope for is we have enough to ride the rollercoaster and regularly progress. Wrexham was part of the roller coaster, but only part of it. UTB

We won’t get rid of Ogbene in my opinion.

He’s played for us and Ipswich.

So there has to be an appeal for them to want him back.

The one thing in our favour imo is that most of the teams are above us, therefore there’s a lot of 6pt games (where we make up the gap by winning and they’ve simultaneously dropped points).

Not explained it well but it makes sense in my head.

Example, Leicester are above us on 34 points to our 29. We win that one we’ve made up ground, they’ve lost ground. They win however and they’re 8 points away.

If we can keep form in this manner we’ll inch up the table.

The big caveat though is those 16 above us also play each other so will continue to pick up points.

We just need to focus on ourselves tbh.

Depends if there is a break clause, I don't know if he has one.

Out of the loaners he is the one I would be more inclined to keep.

Definitely no "standout" team this season. Even Frank Lampard's Coventry have only picked up two wins in their past six games. Current form teams are Ipsich, Hull and Magic Manager Roundabout FC with four wins from six. Boro, like us and a few others, have three from six (note Boro have taken a single point from the past three games). The form table changes all the time - as has been pointed out we are joint top of the ten game table along with Coventry.

We have a couple of trump cards - a successful manager who knows the division and this club inside out. And last year's player of the season.

Other factors: still a parachute payment club, on paper at least. Arguably last season's top Championship goalkeeper. Good fan backing. In top six for home attendances. Young players like Seriki, Peck, Binden (dare I add Cannon?) hitting form. Good backup and potential squad rotation in many (not all) positions.

We have no chance of going up we aren’t even on CWs original timeline of being up and around it by Nov.

Just enjoy the fact we are picky up results and will finish comfortably mid-table.

Happy New Year

win against leicester and there will be play off talk again on here lose and there will be relegation talk on here nailed on draw

The key factor is breaking into the top half. Once we get there, all the teams are clumped together.

It shows how far behind the pack we were that we have 20points from 10 games and are still only 17th.

3rd to 12th are only 7pts apart. We can go 1pt behind 12th placed Leicester if we beat them tomorrow.

Once we make the top half, if we keep the form up, even dropping down to 1.7/1.8ppg, we'll fly up the table all of a sudden

Don't want to derail this and make it about "them" but, at a cursory glance, the pigs have to play about 8 out of the 10 teams above us. Who wants them to lose more than they want us to get into the play-off? 😉🤣

I wouldn't worry about getting any help from them

As good as our form has been since this thread was started we are only 3 points closer.

Our margin for error is extremely slim.
Not a bad rate at which to close 8 points with 21 games to go? From the graph above, we’ve gone 15 & 19 points behind at game 15 to 8 and 12 points behind at 25.

It’s not really the hope that kills you. It’s knowing that it’s the hope that kills you, but you keep hoping anyway that really does for you in the end.

I’ve certainly got my feet planted firmly on the floor as regards an outside chance of a play off place .. but one other interesting fact regarding us potentially chasing down the pack is 5 of the current top 6 have still got to come to The Lane this season , if we can keep the squad & add to it who knows ?? ⚔️

Cappy have a go at this - I've got us just squeezing in to 6th. I don't think I was overly optimistic either!
Big game tomorrow! Belief has been huge for us this season, either due to it lacking or due to an abundance of it.

For the owners to commit to the required investment this window, they need to believe too. A loss tomorrow would be a nightmare for the season IMO

We’ve got to show we can replicate the form from before these last two when we won 7, drew 1 and lost 2.

The Charlton performance was a win, capsized by circumstances.

We need to take that performance into the remaining 2 matches of the week. Otherwise it’s just going to be good money after bad. I’d still be considering Gus. He does really fit into this 4-4-2 unless it becomes 4-4-1-1. He’s a bit of a maverick and team structure doesn’t really suit him. Apart from a wayward shot, not sure he really added anything when he came on as sub.

We've got to play 14/16 teams above us. First time through, the results against those teams were 2 wins, 1 draw, 11 defeats.

I think it's unlikely we'll get 25+ points from those matches. Not because we are rubbish, just because it's a hard league
