Constantly cancelling is the way to go with Now. Multiple accounts on multiple emails addresses. Subscribe when you get a good offer to onee of the email addresses then ensure you cancel before the offer period is up.

That's what I've found. Currently paying £26 a month for Nowtv, and will be cancelling soon and see what they offer again for all or parts of the rest of this season. If we go down I imagine we won't be on as much next season so probably wouldn't bother.

It is a rip off with Sky, but personally I won't go down the firestick route. Not judging just don't fancy doing it and I have a feeling it will all come crashing down at some point.

It continues to amaze me how so many people think streaming illegally is somehow OK when it is basically theft.

To use a comparison. The big breweries are often accused of ripping people off. Based on that do you think it's acceptable to walk into Tesco and stroll out with a case of San Miguel just because you don't agree with the price it's being sold at?

The theft is the extortionate subscription charged by Sky/TNT/Netflix/Disney/Apple/Amazon Prime/Now TV etc………way overpriced in my view.

Just because you don't agree with the price of something doesn't mean it's acceptable to steal it 🤷‍♂️.

How about if you don't agree with the price of Gas and Electric. Is it OK to wire up some sort of device that bypasses your meter?

It amazes me how folk complain about the pricing, yet continue to pay it.

I wouldn’t buy beer from a Tesco though, so it’s a false comparison for me. I rarely drink anyway, so it’s not something that annoys me.

Sky etc charging upwards of £60 quid a month for a pretty shoddy service annoys me. Factor in that those prices are paying wages of people who in reality don’t need said wage and it’s a done deal for me. If you’re wanting to pay £100+ a month for full access to sports/movies/documentaries alongside paying for Netflix/Prime/Paramount etc that’s your choice, I’ll make my choice and stand by it. If you think it’s bad so be it. I’d also classify that as legalised theft. 🤷

Beer (and I know you know this) is not football. If San Miguel isn't available at the price I like I have countless alternatives.

I don't have any alternative to SUFC - none of us do.

I'm not defending the illegal streamers - just pointing out that (IMO) the social contract is severely lacking when it comes to football. There is no competition. If I don't want to pay Sky I don't get to watch Utd. That's a monopoly and is pretty widely thought to be "a bad thing".

How the PL were ever able to convince the EU that the entire PL was the product, I'll never know.

Well said. I was making a very similar point to someone recently when we got into a little debate about the ethical argument for and against using illegal streams to watch games.

In my opinion, putting the legal arguments aside Sky, and the government for that matter lost any moral high ground on this when our national sport became closed off from people not wanting or able to pay exorbitant fees each month.

We already pay a licence fee for the BBC, yet can only get scraps of PL coverage from them, and nothing for the other leagues. We can't even rely on them to broadcast FA Cup games anymore. And then we have the farce of not being able to listen to radio commentaries online, due to some absurd licencing decision made years ago, even though we are seeing all other radio services being pushed onto that very platform.

It's a fucking disgrace, frankly.

It goes deeper than that but a lot of people do not know the difference.

There is one type of illegal streaming where people are "paying" for IPTV to watch sports/movies and often this money is going straight into the pockets of criminals/gangs.
The other type is buying a device off a major online etailer and legally adding the apps to stream sport/movies for free.

The first is 100% illegal as soon as money is paid. The second is only illegal when you watch the stream because no money has been paid to watch it illegally until the stream starts then its just copyright/transmission law (whatever its called)

However the authorities will only go for the first type the second type is not worth pursuing as its individuals doing it.

At the end of the day it is upto the EFL and PL and they are quite happy to take the money off Sky and the signal they send is to watch it legally get Sky which then benefits them also. The cycle is never going to end.
 
Never bought Sky directly, never will. I have however bought the bow TV daily pass many times which is now up to £15 as others have said. It's more for the kids than me because at that price I'm happy to leave it but the kids want to watch whereas I take a slightly more cynical view that we seem to lose more than we win on Sky!

Overall though the PL and Sky partnership has screwed over clubs like ours because you now need huge money to stay up there or an exceptional recruitment model like Brighton or Brentford which still takes some serious cash to fund it. It's worked out even worse for Wednesday of course but largely self inflicted but the amount of money needed to stay up there wage wise makes what happened to Wednesday more likely for around 2/3 of the league such as what's happening at Leicester now.

The wages in the Bundesliga are much less than the PL. I think less than £15m a season for the lower Bundesliga teams which is much less than us in the second tier. I hope one day for a fairer system, with more wealth distribution but can't see it anytime soon.
 
At QPR a couple of years ago, me and my lad were walking near the stadium in colours, when a Sky Cameraman politely asked, "Can I just get a shot of you two walking towards the camera"? A QPR Programme seller was there too and said, "Don't get me in it, you fucking Sky cunt". The Camerman looked proper shocked and walked away, and the programme seller just kept shouting after him, "You cunts have ruined football" over and over again.

I think he uses a firestick

Maybe originally sky money grew the premier league but now global rights are worth more such is the global demand for rights

I see your point but I think the greed & cost of subscriptions has driven the majority to do this. To watch football you now need Sky, TNT & Amazon. To watch Netflix without adverts you need to pay more. I have Amazon Prime but I still need to pay extra to rent certain programmes / films. Throw in Disney, Spotify, Apple TV, TV licence etc and the cost of entertainment is extortionate.

Life’s expensive and a lot of people can’t afford all this. Whether people should feel the need to have it all is another question but we live in a consumerist society & so much revolves around having watched the latest ‘hit’ programmes and a lot of people want to watch sport.

It’s probably also seen as a bit of a victimless crime - a chance to have a little bit of a win against the billionaire owners of Sky, Apple, Amazon etc.

To use your comparison, a lot of people have stopped going to pubs / bars because of the cost and are going for the cheaper alternative to buy beer from supermarkets & drink at home. A fire stick is their cheaper alternative to all the subscriptions.

And whilst most people haven’t stolen beer before, I bet most have stolen a glass or two from the pub!

I know people who could easily afford to pay for Sky but choose the IPTV option, I know one bloke who must be on over £100K a year ffs! So it’s 100% seen as a victimless crime as these people wouldn’t steal other items/services.

I don’t really care what people want to do, it’s their decision, if they want to get a dodgy firestick it’s up to them. The people that annoy me are those that seem to suggest I’m an idiot for paying for Sky, as if it’s a like for like comparable service and I’m just choosing to pay loads more.

When something is stolen, it’s a lot cheaper, I just choose to not buy something that’s stolen.
 
As I can't get to Stoke tonight and the game isn't on Sky I'm going to contribute my £15 to Accrington Stanley FC (v Harrogate Town) - a ground I've never been to and one I'm never likely to go to in the future. Distance wise it's only like going to Bramall Lane for me 😀

I wouldn't ever call someone an idiot for subscribing. Ultimately there is a price that everyone is willing to pay for the convenience of it just working.

I have sailed the seas in the past, and frankly trying to find a stream that works, doesn't buffer, doesn't contain awful ads and works on a tablet can be a complete ball ache.
 
Sky Sports is saying all EFL games are live from 7.35 pm. I will have to wait until then and go through the match Choice. I will be pissed off if our game is not shown.

Weirdly its not on viaplay.fi for me here in Finland, which is odd as usually most of our games get shown, wonder if there's some weird block on broadcasting this game even internationally? !?!?

This threads been an interesting read .

I choose not to have either sky or a dodgy stick , not that I cant afford it , for me personally it doesn't represent good value , for some it does and that's fair enough.

The IPTV stuff is far from victimless and personally giving a criminal network who specialise in electronic theft, a device to connect to your router is hardly risk free.

Sky aren't the victims , but the criminal networks who people give money to probably funds drug and people trafficking so I can choose to miss a bit of telly or footy rather than fund someone's misery , just my choice , others can do as they please.

The "sky ruined football " argument is a bit inaccurate as the Big clubs formed the Premier league , not sky , they just broadcast it. As for the EFL clubs / sky deal , the EFL ( i.e the clubs) agreed to it , its not imposed on us .

Yep football has changed alot , theres alot not to like about how it now is but clubs have done this , they are the ones responsible.

I'll probably find the match on the radio tonight . Old school.
