We need to talk about Sydie Peck

His mediocrity holds us back and he needs to improve, quickly.

Under 21s level is sub championship because of the lack of intensity, pinch of salt with anything like this against a poor team.

He needs to provide passes and assists like that for the blades, consistently, because a box to box midfielder providing 2 assists and no goals in 60 games is poor

Done exactly what we all wanted in the last 3 games, crowned with a magnificent goal.

Keep it up Sydie, delighted to be getting proven wrong

I'd take him off the next penalty. Neither have been convincing. Kind of feels like you're due to miss after scoring 2 like that. I felt the same about Burrows at Hull

I think we have a number of competent but not outstanding pen takers who we should alternate
I find that a really strange post. His penalty the other week was right into the side netting. Unstoppable. Todays was taken watching the keeper commit to his right and slotting it down the middle. As the yoofs say - 'cool'.

Exactly what I thought
Last week's was the perfect pen and today he out psyched the keeper who was clearly anticipating him doing the same again

Indeed. On the Portsmouth one, the keeper went the right way and got a decent stretch. Only the best penalty goes in in those circumstances.

That one today wasn't a bad idea but the execution should have been better - it wasn't high enough to eliminate risk of the keepers trailing leg catching it

First half against Wednesday he was doing his usual backwards and sideways shit.

Since then he's been a lot better.

But why is he taking penalties?
Because he scores them and has the confidence / belief in himself that some of our fans sadly don’t.

It really doesn’t seem like some do want him to do well, strange comments like ‘take him off penalties’ despite scoring 2 out of 2? He was brilliant against Wednesday as well. Some fans haven’t a clue.

If he's good at penalties then keep him on them.

It was just strange why he took the penalty against Portsmouth when we had two strikers on the field.

It's the age old 'short / long corner, quick / slow free kick and placed / blasted penalty' syndrome.
If a penalty taker simply blasts it and scores 6 out of 10 v a penalty taker who uses his body language, his brains to trick the keeper and places it in the net and scores 9 out of 10, that one miss that lands softly in the keeper's arms, will get the fans wondering "why didn't he just blast it?"

Peck is the heartbeat of the team, as he was at times last season when he carried the entire midfield through injuries.

It's a joy watching him, Brooks and Seriki blossom like this and it will be a tragedy if we can't take this trio into the PL for a bit before we inevitably lose them.

I've watched some excellent penalty takers over the years. Woody being best, but even he missed the odd one. I remember him putting one straight at the Man City keeper in a game they won 3-0 at the Lane in the year the Lee, Bell Summerbee etc team won the League.

But it doesn't have to be a forward who is first choice for pens. Keith Eddy and Tony Kenworthy were safe bets to convert a pen.

Maybe the classic case of a specialist non forward penalty taker was a "rugged" centre back who took 32 for Lincoln City and missed only one. A guy called Sam Ellis who started his career in that place in the north of the city.

Depending who we get in fa cup, would love to see them 3, plus blaster and Marsh on together. Would be special moment for them and the academy
