If he knows and trusts that he's going to get playing minutes with us then he'll stay. If he believes he'll only be a 'bit part' player then it might be different.

After his last few seasons his priority is playing football.
Mate I admire your optimism but like 95% of footballers his priority is money....with his agent desperately trying to increase that to 100%!!

Hes 29 with possibly just one decent final contract in him. For us it has to be worth paying him good wages as to sign someone of his quality will cost a lot. The balancing factors are his age, injury record and length of contract

It's probably no coincidence that the team has started to look better since his arrival. The importance of having a high quality midfielder can't be understated. We saw it with Souza, we saw it with Norwood, and so on.
Peck is good, but he's more like a Robin to your Batman at this point in time.

Riedewald is the sort of solid pro that this team has been crying out for, the glue that keeps things together who does the simple stuff well and makes the right decision 99% of the time. No coincidence that ever since he's gained fitness and spent time alongside Peck that performances have picked up, both from Peck and in general, just having someone that Peck can have beside him knowing that they've got the mucky stuff in order.

He hasn't got the physical prowess of a bloke like Souza but unlike Souza, his brain always seems to be engaged while Souza was prone to losing his marbles at times. When he was on it, Souza was a level above almost anyone in the Championship but when his brain went to mush, we were found lacking.

Fair enough. If you’re Riedewald why would you bother competing with Davies, Peck, Arblaster, and Soumaré if you can get game time at another club. Hopefully we could shift Davies on if Riedewald is happy to sign a 2 or 3 year deal but I’m not optimistic.

It would be a shame to lose him, but I can see his point, and the lure of Saudi money must be tempting.
But he has the shirt at the moment over Soumare & Matos. We don't know what level Arblaster will get back to - he's a different type of player anyway. And we can't rely on Davies to get/stay fit.

I think he'll want to stay but on the condition he gets a two or three year deal which suddenly doesn't look that appealing from our side.
Contracts can be structured a variety of ways … we could offer 12 months with a further 12 months triggered based on % of minutes played …

We could offer a set wage with end of season bonuses based on league position …

We could get a contract together to suit both sides

I agree. From his point of view and age Saudi is a better move for him. Not us though obviously would love to keep him

Though we thought the same when we first loaned BB Diaz - gerrim signed up.

Last season we re-loaned him - genius work by Wilder I thought, only to conclude - gerrim shipped out.

1 goal in 13 for Derby so far.

Has player inconsistency become so much worse in recent years?
I always quote Leon Clarke, who was on fire when he first came, then we gave him a new deal and he seemed more interested in which colour of Bugatti to choose.

But we cant get a contract together that will pay anything close to what the Saudis can. Hes already played PL with Palace so does the championship in a cold, wet city look thst appealing on WAY less money?

Surely Riedwald is nailed on as a starter for most of this season, alongside Peck?

Soumare is the back up for him in the holding role and Blaster will probably start to rotate with Peck, but that needs to be managed very carefully over several months.

Matos is the emergency option, unless we can loan him out and bring in an upgrade, and I am at the point of giving up on Davies.

Beyond this season we would need to have a look, but I can see Riedewald being hard to shift if he has established the spot for the next 5 months. It seems like there is the basis of an 18 month contract there at least. But if the Saudi rumours are true, we may as well start saying our goodbyes.

I’d offer him big money until the end of the season. He’s got young kids and I’m unsure he’d want to move them again before the end of the year.

He can pick up a longer term deal in Saudi, probably on the same or better money after a good season in the Chanp.

A little shout out to the nudge Jairo gave the Stoke player, that allowed Seriki to serve past him and get his shot off for the second goal.
Seen a few people mention this and after I've seen it a few times it's no more than you would expect any player to do in that position

What he does well and some of our players need to learn from is he stops and doesn't give away a foul when he realises seriki doesn't need any help

The injuries to McGuinness and Mee, and with Arblaster returning, we do have the option of playing him alongside Tanganga at centre-back. I don’t expect that to happen, as he’s been excellent in midfield, but it would be a way for him to stay in the side with both Peck and Arblaster. I think he’d do well there, but the team is playing so well that you don’t want to change too much, so I expect Bindon to come in. Either way I hope we can retain him, been a great signing.
