Barry and Bindon: Not good enough.

Other than his corners Barry was poor today. I know confidence is low with many players but he really needs to stake a claim in the team with Hamer out. Not busting a gut to track back and help was really evident, he barely did more than a light a jog today.

He needs to step it up or Villa may as well recall him.
Totally agree, never saw him get involved in the battle, poor on tracking back.....and I'm yet to see him take a full back on.....not low on confidence, he's just not good enough......period

Barry will likely go back in January. I'm sure having a decent conversation with villa that he won't get game time will end the agreement. He's just not very good. Bindon may stay unless we have a similar conversation with Forest.

Very average players who were two of Selles "marquee" loan signings. That says enough.

Bindon was our Souttar replacement (loan CB).

Barry was our JRS replacement.

If any of you are wondering how we've fallen off so dramatically, have a look ..
They’ll both go back in January. The fact Matos didn’t come on either and he chose to bring on Shackleton & the new lad who clearly wasn’t fit was a telling sign

Barry seemed to be one of Selles favourites and consistently started but was always ineffective, not wanting the ball and looking weak in the body as he was always easily knocked of the ball. His call up today by Wilder today was a surprise.

A few of us in the Kop said it was probably a good decision by Wilder because now was Barry’s big chance to impress and claim a starting place.
However 1st half it was very Cannonesque performance, it wasn’t so much that Barry was bad, he just never touched the ball.
His body language seemed poor as though he didn’t want to play….when he did get the ball there was no attempt to take on a man….he just played the easy ball back to a midfielder. Ogbenie was the winger on the other and so much busier. Ogbenie came back into defence to win the ball, he tried to take on a defender or 2, yes he often failed but at least he was trying to make things happen.

It was no real surprise when Barry was taken off on the 55th minute, he didn’t do much wrong was he was so ineffective, it was like he wasn’t on the pitch.
What made matters worse for Barry is that his replacement Andre Brookes made an instant impact and played like he was on a mission with a point to prove.

In fact, today all the substitutes that came on made us better (for a change).
I’ve been saying for a while that Binman and Lightweight Louie should be sent back in Jan.
Neither of them offer anything to open play.

Lightweight gets knocked off the ball so easily it might have been an instruction to play it back. Cos he’s never going to beat his man in the champ.

One thing Barry did contribute to was corners. He took some excellent corners and we very nearly scored from two of them.

I think it's silly writing players off. But we can't afford to be waiting for too many players to come good. So it will probably need to be a brutal decision with both these players come Jan. That does not mean either won't go onto have excellent careers or could possibly have contributed more this season. One thing with Barry that concerned me, was with his you tube highlight, all his goals were curlers from the edge of the box. You are not going to score those week in, week out at a higher level. I am not sure yet, how else he contributes.

I might be wrong but I think Wilder wasn’t happy with Barry’s pressing either.

Brooks twice snared his fullback after replacing Barry. Granted it’s easier for a sub to do this, but still not a good reflection.

He might yet come good, but so far he’s had one good half of football.

Only if they will negotiate.
There will be January release clause based on appearances and both clubs being happy they are pretty standard .
You know the ones that everyone gets infeasibly hysterical about every time a loan is going well and they are terrified of them getting recalled. ?
Surely you do !

I’d argue he had a decent 20 mins, only, Jade.

Although he’s Lightweight Louie he’s fallen just as fast off a cliff since then than one of those gold elephants at the sty might do.

Its in their interest to negotiate, why would they leave a player thats going to play cat 2 u21 football and getting odd 20 mins here and there (in Barry's case) & 0 minutes for bindon on loan. Both need to go back and be sent back out at their level which is league 1.

Its either a case of, they have misjudged the development and stepped up to quick/early to a higher level they ain't ready for or that they are just not good enough.

Yep. Widz was visibly frustrated by Barry’s lack of effort on a couple of occasions, and audibly sweary.

That said, there wasn’t a semblance of a co-ordinated collective press for much of the game, particularly in the first half. Which looked like a bit of a wasted opportunity, given the weight of panicky errors Watford made in their own third.

I thought Barry looked really rather good - against Chesterfield in pre-season….
Maybe that’s his level as he looks now where near fit enough or strong enough for the Championship. Lost count of how many times their right back bullied him off the ball AND beat him with skill.
It’s a ‘no’ from me & if Villa want him back, they can have him.

His tracking back left a lot to be desired too. At one point McCallum went to the technical area and complained to Wilder and Knill.

Corners aside, a poor display from Barry.

Aye, from all the way back in row MM I saw him throwing his arms in the air when Barry did little to prevent the fullback’s pass into midfield. Happened a couple of times. I guess it’s the difference between lording it over L1 and playing the team role in the level above. Either he learns or he’s gone.

We’re certainly a long way from having a swarming press and a threatening attack, but I’m pleased the comical distances between players has been addressed.

Just about says it all that these two appeared to be Selles' two main targets and were the only players we had signed before the first game of the season. Yet both of them look like children playing in a men's game. Selles really was a funking clown, wasn't he?

A kind interpretation would be to suggest that Selles is a coach with little experience in recruitment, thrown into a club that expects its coach to take the lead.

But even that doesn’t excuse his selections and tactics…

It may depend on what percentage of the player’s salary United are paying.
If the parent club have already written the player off as not good enough, then he may as well stay where he is if his salary is being covered.

Aston Villa are looking at recalling Louie Barry from his loan spell at Sheffield united.
The 22 yr old winger has only been unused substitute twice under Chris Wilder and got 23 mins against Charlton and nine against Hull
👀

a 32 minute look at him by Wlder who sees he is no Basham

I'd say he's likely not good enough, but also low on confidence. He had his head down the whole game.

As most of you have already said, his corners were pretty good, mainly.

He is small, weak and lightweight, doesn't appear to have blistering pace and was no match for their defenders, yesterday.

You can be small-ish, and weak, if you have a ton of technical skill, like David Brooks (with his school boy looks) when he played for us, but Barry, so far, has not really shown too much of that. In earlier games he seemed to be trying, but yesterday he just looked lost.

A few of us have said it before, but we need more tough, six footers in the side.

Barry turned in the worst performance from a player I've ever seen. He offered nothing whatsoever and didn't even track back or close down. Looked totally lost. In fact, I told the bloke next to me that he looked stoned. Should’ve been off within the first 25 minutes. How he managed double that is beyond me,

Sorry Pal, I can't let you off here. Barry was poor, slow, seemingly completely unmotivated and totally ineffectual, I'll give you that.

His performance though was never even close to the mind-bendingly awful abortion that Ben Godfrey put in against Ipswich earlier this season in my opinion.

Barry at least delivered a couple of decent corners and tried not to give the ball away by just simply passing the ball back 5 yards to a defender during his 50-odd minutes. Godfrey however showed an incredible level of consistency during his whole Ipswich display. Somehow he managed to keep up the shittest possible standards mixed with apathy and indifference. It was 'different level' ineptness. We really would have been better off having the other defenders push a wheelie bin around in his shirt on the night, he was SO bad.

Oh Joy.

Exactly. It does seem a big missed opportunity. We should have been in a prime position to attract quality loans on the back of the success we had with MGW, Hendo, Souttar and McAtee,, all except Souttar added millions to their value in no small part due to their time with us.

The 5 loans this year have been poor and a waste of money so far - further evidence of a really shambolic summer for the owners. Barry and Bindon look to be L1 standard on the evidence of what we have seen so far, the jury is still out on Sounare and Ogbene (remember we have supposedly paid a £1m loan fee for Soumare) and Godfrey has shown nothing to suggest he’s worth the £60k per wk we’re allegedly paying him, although it would be harsh to judge without knowing what personal issues he is going through.
