If we are to sign him then a short term deal to January would make sense. Review at that point and let that determine whether he's here in 2026 or not.

What I expect to happen is a contract to 2027 because Wilder is convinced he has the midas touch; and less than 90 minutes in total.
You had me till you mentioned the 'sense ' word....😬

Don't mind this, but shows how wank our summer signings were. Third time lucky to replace Vini, only 4 months after we sold him. Buy cheap, buy thrice
When you hear Betis saying things like "Selles didn't get involved with player recruitment"
there's no wonder we're in the position we're in.

The manager should select all first team recruits, only then can he be held totally responsible for results

Absolutely not.

The manager should have an input but he shouldn't be the arbiter of all recruitment. That's how you end up spending £8m on Tom Cannon or £18.5m on Rhian Brewster.

Doesn't happen in any successful football club in Europe!

But how do you account for the "data" and everyone else invlovled in the transfer and identifying if the player is the right fit is wrong along with the manager? It happens.

Data said cannon would be alright - hes shit

Im sure data & scouting reports from Swansea half season said hed be a good buy - turned out he was shit and injured all the time.

Bit unfair to lay cannon wholly on Wilder, when everyone said he was ran by the data analytics (supposedly).

Who should be to blame is the people negotiating the deals & likewise the scouts for being shit at their jobs or not having a backbone (in cannons case). Cannon wouldnt get half the slack if he cost £2m, you'd say cheap gamble that hasnt worked & likewise with brewster.

Not a signing I'm unhappy with.

It must mean that some of loanees are going back, youngsters are going out on loan and maybe some others are being sent packing like Chucky, Ukaki Curtis, Shackleton perhaps.

There are easily 8 players we could trim from the squad and be no worse off.

Our use of the loan market has been utterly disastrous, as has almost all of the recruitment so far.

Worth a gamble on him. If he can be fit enough then I suspect he may well end up being that DM that we are missing.
Clearly Soumare hasn't impressed enough for either Selles or Wilder. And personally Matos hasn't convinced me either.

Adds some height too in midfield as well which is needed.

I wouldn't be surprised if its not fully disclosed if we have signed him in time for tomorrow. My guess would be he will be on the bench.

The point is that neither Cannon nor Brewster was a £2m gamble. They were both marquee signings who came with huge question marks for anyone with an ounce of analytical ability which would suggest that their acquisition was driven more by a view on the intangibles from the football side.

I can't find an fbref report for Cannon's time at Stoke. Here's last season:

That's a chart for a below average striker. He takes a lot of low-quality shots but doesn't score. He wins a few headers but he's 6' so he should be above average in the air.

As this is a thread about Riedewald, here's his report. He's another non-attacking, defensively solid midfielder.

Who should dovetail nicely in a spoiling two with Matos, both charged with winning the ball back when Matos or Hamer gives it away.

The pie charts for Ukaki and Jeff Cacares were absolutely banging.

The eye test for Jairo is that he is an absolute baller and also a deeply sensual man.

Not one single Sheffield United fan wouldn't have spent that money on Brewster .the kid was hot property and the frenzy around him was unparalleled on here
I think it is still the biggest thread

Strange one. He was a highly rated prospect at Ajax and then spent 7 years at Palace but wasn't fancied by their managers, although was praised for his profesionalism and said to be a good character. But whenever he did play he played well according to Palace fans, earning player of the month twice (both in 2020). From a few clips I've watched he looks like a decent ball winner with good composure on the ball. Maybe not the most athletic. Versatility is a bonus. Unfortunately he hasn't played since May so I doubt he's fit enough to go straight into the team.

I assume the deal is all fitness related and i expect we have the option to extend the deal in January if we want to.
