Why didnt we bring Mcburnie back?

I'm struggling to find a reason we didn't sign any strikers during the summer, now look at us? You can say what you want about Warnock but he recruited more strikers than Billy Ummer!
It's no struggle - we spent our £ on the Cannon That Won't Fire.

It should also be pointed out that common knowledge is that we offered McBurnie £10k per week less than the Humberside Jungle Cats did, over a shorter contract.

Separately, if Robinson did that he should have been bombed out before the first match of the season.
Robinson should not have been here since summer 2024

This conversation is always positioned as we didn’t want to sign him, what we don’t know is did he even want to joint? He didn’t have a great time here under Wilder and turned down his renewal contract before buggering off to Spain, I don’t think it was very likely he was ever going to sign for us again unless we offered a ridiculous contract.

I always rather liked McBurnie, but I'd imagine the reason for not signing him back will be financial. Whilst I'm sure people will be disappointed we can't compete with Hull, you have to appreciate the context behind the Hull situation. Given Hull can't spend transfer fees, but still want to build a competitive squad and keep the fans on side. For them signing a fairly big name with a largely decent record at the level on a free will be seen as a big priority. As a consequence I wouldn't be surprised to see them pushing the package on offer beyond what other clubs would deem reasonable. Its a signing that's a bigger deal for them than it would be us.

Still feels a kick in the bollocks when we cant score though

Though we are crying out for a target man to hold the ball up McBurnie never really did that role , he was injury prone & and only had one good season when he had an exceptional player at his side called Ndiaye .
For all the hate aimed at Moore he is exactly what we are missing up top ⚔️
I don’t hate him, I just didn’t rate him.

Jurassic Parkinson’s style seems to be suiting him much better. Fair play

If he gets him scoring for them that ain’t a bad thing ..agree re Parkinson style of play ..we never had enough width to supply the ammo to Moore ..he did a job for us & we were crying out for some to hold the ball up & play in the midfield on Sat ..we were very predictable..in the League 1 Wilder campaign we had bring in James Hanson as sides were sitting deep against us & we started to struggle to break em down ..you’ve gotta be able to stretch the lines ⚔️

McBurnie or Moore wouldn’t have scored anywhere near as many they have for Hull & Wrexham for us, even if Wilder had stayed after the PO final.

Look at the goals they’re scoring, players like Giles getting early crosses in & men in the box. We don’t do that & hardly played to Moore’s strengths last season so why would this season have been any different?

It wouldn’t.

We never played to either of their strengths.

It’s like me buying a fucking catapult to get to Bridlington

I do somewhat agree with that. Mcburnie was capable of scoring so much more for us but he'd be fortunate if he got a chance a game

In fairness last night first half I recall decent balls into the box from Burrows, Ogbene and Hamer and not a single player looking to attack it.
I was fine with us getting rid of Moore - but not replacing him with a similar type of striker who can hold up the ball and be a target when we're penned in was absolute suicide by the recruitment team.

He's got 4 so far at Hull, including 1 today and Lundstram scored for them. Egan scored last week for them as well. They've got our Spine and we got their Spain (manager) Bring Mcburnie back please Chris. Break the bank for him, Lundstram and Egan. 40 million should do it.

I think you may have separation anxiety?

It’s been a problem for a while now. Our strikers feed off one or two chances a game, and to be fair to Campbell he took one last night. His good run of form last year wasn’t from us creating loads more chances for him, he was just clinical with the one/two chances.

The issue with Moore, McBurnie & most Championship strikers in our system is that they’re generally not the most clinical. One chance one goal type players are usually in the PL, and for good reason.

Yeah ridiculous sentiment.

He is capable at this level and we needed strikers.

But wouldn't be surprised if Robinson advised him not to join though. He really didn't buy into Selles. Mind you I think most have the squad didn't in the end.
Thing is, it felt like we were very much pushing the squad player angle, we didn’t make an effort we could have on the money front and Sellés didn’t even bother to ring him to talk to him.

I bet he felt really wanted after that combo!
