My first away game. I'd started work the previous month so had a few quid in my pocket. Decided to go on a Blades coach with a fellow apprentice.
Two vague memories: Millwall's game was postponed that day so a few of them turned up at The Valley. Cue fisticuffs with the Charlton fans.
Also, The Blades played in one of our best ever away kits. Yellow shirt with black chevrons.

I hope Seriki & Ogbene start on the right and perform well. They’ve got the potential to form a strong partnership, not only is Ogbene’s pace a counter attack threat but he can also use it to push the opposition back creating space for Seriki to carry the ball into, which is his strength.

It most likely will be, even last season we weren’t blowing teams away, although I think we will be really fired up tomorrow and come flying out of the traps, 2-0 would be my prediction.

I was at The Valley a couple of years later. Our coach was in a convoy and crashed into the coach in front. Freezing on the way back to Sheffield on the same coach. We lost. Paul Walsh played for those.
