Near Sell Out on Saturday

Someone had to do it…. just counted up the remaining tickets on the ticket site.

Kop 13
South stand 2
BL upper tier and corner stand 25
John Street stand 8
Kop corner bit 120 (that was just about sold out earlier today but they’ve now released all the restricted view tickets)

So there’s currently 168 tickets left…vast majority in the JS corner.
I’ve calculated that our current maximum home capacity is 28,708.

So we’ve currently sold 28,540 tickets and several Charlton fans on their forum estimate they’ve sold about 1,500 of their 2,408 allocation.

So we’re looking at an attendance of 30.0K…based on current sales.
A few more will be sold Friday….so my guess is the attendance will end up being close to 30.2K
Need to knock off around 400 Kop “standing “ seats not on sale yet.. just available for ST swaps.

Fair enough and also you tend to find the areas on the South stand and John Street stand close to the away end still have areas where the tickets aren’t put on sale.
It’s as though the club need to ask permission from SAG to sell certain seats in no man’s land areas.

So if we’re close to selling out 2 weeks before a match (like last seasons Sheffield derby) then it gives us time to arrange a meeting or communicate
and get permission from SAG to release further seats. If we look like selling out a day or 2 before the match then it’s too late and certain seats never get put on sale.

As mentioned, in last seasons Sheffield derby we kept finding and releasing bits of additional seating but it was all still sold out 1 week before the match.
That had an attendance of 31,125 and Wednesday had their allocation restricted down to 2,417 instead of the usual 2,800 given to most other clubs.
So at that match there were 28,708 Blades, logic suggests that is currently our max home capacity with total stadium capacity being just over 31.5K.

Anyhow even taking into account unreleased seats, it looks certain that at least 29K have already been sold.

That's riduculous too. They are separate stands. I don't know any other club that closes sections of their stands because they are 'too close to' the away supporters sitting in a separate stand.

Many clubs are happy to house home and away supporters in the same stand, separated by a couple of rows of closed seats

Sheffield is the only place in the country that I can think of, where these unspoken rules seem to apply.

They should have released these to general sale a few days ago instead of leaving them empty, they never quite get things right do they. Still time but we will see. Will be strange when you open up safe standing and there's 400 empty seats/stands and people have had to buy single seats and in restricted parts of the ground.

The club originally gave Kop STHs priority to move into the area till yesterday morning, at which point this was opened to STHs anywhere. If you were to open that up to matchday sales a few days ago that stops a potential STH move. It’s not an ideal situation, but I imagine that when the initial deadlines were given for the STH moves the likelihood that this would come close to sell out was very low – which to be fair was still the case 7 days ago.

Probably would have been better allowing on the day tickets for Saturday and opening the window up for non Kop ST holders from Monday. Season ticket holders could have transferred for a one-off game to trial it, and anyone else could have bought a ticket there too.

Two of them are dead, and one (now 76) hasn’t been with them since 1990. Old JJ, who’s still plugging away, looks pretty well for his age, tbf.

I know the current lot have their advocates, and fair play to that. But for some who loved the classic line-up, me incl, The Stranglers haven’t really been The Stranglers for decades.
I felt the same ,I was a hige Stranglers fan ,queued from 3 in the morning at Virgin records to get Black and White and saw them live all over the place. But instead of being a music snob I thought, where else am I going to hear their stuff and at least one of them is still here ( wish there was a Ramone). I have watched SLF and the Pistols ,Skids, Big Country etc for years without the original line ups. Ive seen the Stranglers twice in the past year, at the City hall and Lincoln castle, they were brilliant both times. The Buzzcocks supported them, got to say they were disappointing , only one of them left too. I suppose The Stranglers songs are more relatable to 60/70 years olds.

Fair point who'd have thought this would sell out, not sure what time they sell match day tickets up until but you'd have thought they would allow sales late on Incase people want these tickets.

So, in short, our top line attendance has a saggy bottom?

Club or SAG?

Not sure it’s the club preventing people from purchasing tickets.

Makes you wonder how many Wendy fans there are in SAG. (Conspiracy 😊)

I’ve sometimes wondered the same.

Especially how SAG orders safety work to be done in the Sheff Wed north stand last season. They fail to do any of it.

SAG issue a statement warning the north stand is unsafe and might be forced to close it down. Then mysteriously days before the season starts they give the green light regards using the unsafe stand.

Not saying it’s currently unsafe but it appears that instead of staying neutral and professional SAG are using their power to put further financial pressure and negative publicity on Chansiri. Why?

Loads of RV on pukka pie corner. Must be a shite view

I’ve been in there a few times…..there’s a thin pillar obstructing a small area of the pitch
But if you move your head 6 inches to the left or 6 inches to the right then it’s problem solved.

If you don’t mind occasionally moving your head, you see all the action and it’s a really good view, high up and quite close to the pitch with a steepish rake/ angle.

Only stand in the ground I've never been in but it looks to me at least, like about quarter of that stand won't give a view of the BL end.

When the away end at Forest was still standing, there was a section in the back corner where you could only one goal.

I also turned up at Scunny one night to find there was pillar literally right in front of my seat. Had to sway side to side all through the game.

Probably a few more over the years that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Agreed. Not much wrong with that view. Used to be the old Juvenile Pen. And you get access to the JSS catering which is less stress than the kop.

Not as easy to have a fag though :)

The Stranglers are still a fantastic live band. This may be controversial, but Baz is a big upgrade on Hugh and has now been with the band a lot longer than Hugh was. There aren’t many other bands from that era that in my opinion are still worth seeing, but I strongly recommend Ruts DC.

You think we have it bad?

In midweek over at S6 they had two rows of stewards separating the Grimsby fans in West Stand from the Grimsby fans in the North Stand!

Only in Sheffield.

And conveni

And conveniently all of a sudden the whole issue of their North Stand closure was dropped from all their social media discussions! The whole thing was really dodgy. There were rumours that some of their exec box sponsors paid for minimal work to be done to enable them to get the safety certificate. In reality that was madness as it has enabled ‘Chancer’ hang on and not have to compensate fans for relocation / refunds.
