united charging £41 for a ticket in the south stand against Watford , how can they justify that, when they are only charging £25 on Saturday for Charlton game

Rhian Brewster is playing*, it’s worth the entry price for that alone.

* he probably won’t be because he’ll be injured but wonders never cease.

Assume we’re charging similiar to last season.

Half our matches last season were category A and they’ve chosen the most attractive 12 fixtures and made them category A.
Last season Stoke and Hull were also category A, £41 in most areas of the ground.

The Charlton match is a total one-off, it’s a category C match.
Good to see it brought back because we stopped doing category C prices years ago.

Southampton game is Cat B and cheaper. I would have thought this was a more attractive game than Watford.

Agree but it’s a midweek match which are often more difficult to attend and has smaller crowds.

We’ve not had a single cat A match yet this season.
All our home games to date have been against the lesser attractive teams.
Seems like they were keen to finally allocate a match as cat A.

I know this is not just a United issue and is across the 92, but surely we make more money by selling tickets at £25 than £41.

Realistically, how many POTD tickets are we going to sell when it's going to be over £120 for a family of 4 to attend against Watford?

I think the problem is the club has to have a decent differential between season ticket prices per game and pay on the day. However there has to be a middle ground and to expect people to pay 41 quid to watch a lower half of the championship game against a nothing side is ridiculous.

Is that accepted wisdom true anymore?

I buy my ST in the full knowledge that due to the shifting sands of the fixture list, I'll maybe make the "break even" point.

I get mine so that for the games I get to, I'm sat with the mates I've sat with for eons. Pretty much all of them buy for the same, emotional over financial reason as holdays, family stuff etc takes precedence too.

I've no problem if matchday tickets are £25 and it enables people with not a lot of spare cash to watch their team, it doesn't disadvantage me in the slightest.

It is bizarre that Charlton will be £25 and Watford potentially over £40, depending on where you sit. Watford may be ever so slightly more attractive of a fixture, on paper - although I'd argue the opposite, as we've not played Charlton for a while, so at least it has a bit of a novelty factor.

You’d think that but the evidence continuously shows this is untrue.

When the club decreases prices by £5 or even £10 against less attractive opposition, the attendance hardly increases.
However when we increases prices by £5 against attractive opposition, we still always have an above average gate.

The subject of ticketing is an area where our owners are massively more educated that any fan.
They will have studied all the data, spreadsheets and will have their finger on the pulse regards increasing revenue.
They might not know much about football but they are experts and highly successful when it comes to business.
The data continuously shows that pricing doesn’t have as much effect on the gate compared to the quality/ reputation of the opposition.
It’s the same at Sheff Wed, their fans complain about the prices but when ever they are reduced to £15 for a night match against unattractive opposition it’s still a below average attendance and whenever they charge rip-off prices for big matches they still get one of their biggest crowds of the season.

I sit with a few on the Kop and at the end of the season we all talk about whether we should renew our season ticket or not.
Personally I’d prefer to pay on a match by match basis but I’ve compared the match day prices to season ticket prices
And even if I miss about 6 matches a season it’s still financially better to renew your season ticket. So it becomes a no brainer to renew your season ticket.

Really not sure about this.

Last season we reduced ticket prices to £20 for the Coventry game and got one of our highest crowds of the season - 30,800. For our previous home game against Bristol City (where tickets cost £30), the crowd was 25,070. Same again for our next home game against Millwall - 25,775. We even got a higher crowd in that Coventry game than we did against Leeds.

Our other 30k+ crowds were pretty understandable: Wednesday, Boxing Day, last home game of the season.

The Charlton game is £25 around the ground and it's going to sell out. I know there are other factors involved, but I do think that psychological £30+ barrier puts a lot of people off.

The Anniversary of George Baldock 😢 passing is Thursday October 9th. Watford is the First Home game after this , so maybe the club are thinking , charge ££££ as supporters will want to go to this game. ?

You need to sell 60% more tickets just to break even. I doubt that many people would be incentivised to go at the cheaper price.

That's crazy pricing if you ask me, but if people will pay it.......

Where are we in the league table of pricing for Championship clubs?

I always used to think our tickets were reasonably priced, but 41 quid for Watford does sound a tad steep.
