First time I've been able to watch any of the football this season and that was dire and confusing. The play, the subs and the casualness of it all. Most worrying is that over the summer good players have become bad and ok players have become really bad - so much jogging around when it's meant to be high intensity. All of them. We don't know how to get the ball to the forwards, no matter who's playing there.

If this has been the same every week then he's not looking at strengths and weaknesses (Peck, Hamer, O'Hare, Campbell) and blindly doing what he thinks is the right way - same as the Man U guy, that just shows your limitations as a manager, not the players. You're just exposing theirs!!!
Selles certainly knows how to put teams under pressure, the trouble is it's his own team.
Peck left to play defensive midfield across the width of the pitch and move forward to be a playmaker. Burrows to be an attacking wing back with no cover in front of him. Campbell to play a lone striker with no support as the other front players stay out wide. There were gaps all over the pitch for the opposition to move into.
Reading fans said Selles was stubborn and wouldn't change tactics, I am beginning to think he hasn't the football intelligence to know how to.
He is the classic example of someone being able to pass exams but when having to apply those skills in the real world, can't do it. It happens in plenty of other professions so why not in football?

Oh for fucks sake.

It wasn’t about “winning”.

It was about change that was needed. The board decided this.

Whilst it was needed, it was upsetting nonetheless given the times we have had, great times, but change was needed.

It baffles me that only one man is deemed as capable of turning things around. There should be plenty of options out there.

As to how many will want to work for this board, well that’s another question.

One thing I’m sure we can agree on, this isn’t working

Usual “fans got Wilder sacked” bullshit. How that reconciles with “Majority wanted CW to stay” and “l don’t know anyone who wanted Tufty out” claims only God, the real one, not the Stocksbridge one, knows.

Edwards is no attacking genius, but our midfield shape is a gift to the opposition. They tried on several occasions to get two players for Peck to deal with centrally. For a while our defenders (especially Tanganga) managed to compensate and rescue the situations, but eventually it paid off:

Looking forward to your analysis of our shape after the final substitutions but fear it might be beyond you this time.

Football is all, and only, about winning. It's literally the point of points.

That’s not not what I meant and you blatantly know that.

I meant that Wilder going wasn’t a win for anybody.

Thanks for the fucking patronising reply. I’ve been playing and watching football all my life. Of course I know it’s about winning

You said change was needed.

It simply was not needed. That was some people's opinion.

It's looking like a foolish one from here isn't it.

That always puzzled me.

I think of a lot of us thought a season of rebuilding would be necessary last season, with perhaps a chance of the play offs. Instead we won a points total that 8 out of 10 seasons would have seen us promoted.

So one would have thought pretty much "more of the same" would be required...

Doesn’t matter, you can’t recognise failure when you see it.

You have a right to your view of course, just as I have a right to mine.

But it’s a circular argument where there are definitely no winners. I apologise for my salty reply.

I’m out

What change was needed, that couldn't have happened with Wilder at the helm, at least for a little longer?

A change of manager is looking inevitable. It won’t be Wilder and that will be a big step towards finally putting that sort of shite to bed.
When Wilder went I was hoping for him to be replaced by someone with a history of some success.
The owners decided to roll the dice and appoint Selles who had very little experience and won nothing. It looks like he will be replaced soon and this will probably be for the best as he does seem tactically inept and we could soon become too entrenched in a relegation battle. I do not however condone the behaviour of our fans towards him this afternoon and found it quite sickening. It should also be remembered that until the last few days our recruitment policy has left him with serious gaps in the squad.
One of Wilder's problems was his massive ego and self importance. If he were reappointed he would become unbearable. He achieved a lot for us over the years but those achievements are now history and should be left there.

Excellent post, nail on the head in all respects.
