No, I pointed to a journalist indicating that bids of around that amount would be considered.

I am a pessimist about football, having supported Utd since 1953. But it is too early to write this season off yet, despite the obvious problems at ownership level and disappointments on the pitch. For the remainder of this month, Premier League clubs are no longer able to dominate and distort the transfer market, so it should be possible to do some good business. If nothing gets done, then there will be cause for concern. My prediction/guess is that we will make a couple of signings, most on here will immediately declare that we are heading for promotion, we will lose the first match in September, and the same posters will immediately predict relegation. Things will then settle down, and we will end mid-table. My record over the years with predictions is, however, abysmal.
A second thought: most of the players regarded now as excellent signings (Coutts, Fleck, JOC, Freeman, perhaps Clarke) were initially regarded as not good enough. This does not mean that because Egan has not been an instant success he will later impress when he settles in, but it does suggest that it is sensible to give new signings breathing space.

Woodburn in Brooks out, Donaldsson out McGoldrick in, Coutts return, and we're in with the same team that did fine last season. Loans Norwood from Brighton and an upgraded striker and we'll be in with a shout. A push for playoffs this season is more a dream than realistic. Just look at the clubs who have spent big money over years going nowhere, it simply can't go on, bubbles will burst. When Adam Rooney moves from Aberdeen to Salford on much improved wages it's a story about the effects of the wagemadness in the premier league that affects clubs on minor budgetts. We're simlply running a different race. I bet the oldguard Wolves supporters hardly recognize the players for saturday. The second season will always be more challenging after an absence from the championship like ours. WBA-Bolton 1-2, it's eleven vs eleven regardless

He's a player, like Duffy, who'd be absolutely key to our system functioning, and it would be hard to find a more suitable player for that role.

Especially entertaining just after the final whistle as Paul Thirlwell (I think) had a face to face row with a fan who'd been shouting abuse at the Harrogate bench during the 2nd half - wish I could have heard what it was all about

It’s decades. The saga of bringing Brian Gayle in back in 1991-2 was something. We only ended up getting him because Bassett lent the club some of the money.
