Mcburnie

While I like McBurnie he’s another year older and is injury prone. Not worth busting the bank for. The new owners need to show a bit more in the market now though. CB, CB, CF, pace, RB, needed especially if Anel going.

Seems rather odd that when Moore has been reported to have passed his Wrexham medical today we also announce the loan signing of Soumare. It screams out to me we have to sell before we can bring anyone in. Don't laugh too much at the piggies we might be the next with the begging buckets.

Hope you've got some decent laundry liquid/powder. Those sheets are going to need some serious washing 🤷‍♂️ .

I think we need to find a "youngster" from a prem team who can come in and be that 3rd Striker, someone with blistering pace who can press with the intensity we need.

We need to find someone as close to Campbell as possible IMHO.

When he went off last season and we needed to change tactics accordingly we looked decidedly inferior!

I’m starting to wonder if we’re not that bothered.

Bear with me.

We will likely play 4-3-3.

That requires just one starting striker. There’s no deep lying striker in that set up where you can fudge in another centre forward like you can with 4-2-3-1.

I think this will happen:

1. We’ll start with the plan of Hamer-Peck- O’Hare behind Barry-Campbell-Brooks.
2. Soumaré will arrive but will be earmarked as a squad player. Caceres will be a back up and then Davies will take the other spot prior to Arblaster returning. Back up forwards for week 1 would be Oné, Cannon and Ukaki.
3. Everton, having just completed the move for Dewsbury-Hall will let us have Iroegbunam.
4. Iroegbunam will become a bona fide starter. That creates a quandary. So we’ll move Peck to one side and Hamer to the other. That leaves O’Hare as a spare.
5. O’Hare will then end up competing with Brooks and Barry for the wide berth. This will mean that Oné has to compete just as much for a striker role. We will retain Marsh as 4th striker who can play in a few spots.
6. We won’t see value anymore in paying if money for a 3rd choice striker, knowing that Cannon, Oné, Marsh and Barry can all play there instead of Campbell and it’s only one spot. We also have Caceres and Ukaki remember who can both operate wide if we need to shove one of the aforementioned down the middle.

Meanwhile we spend more time on defence and bring in this Korean lad with the Moore money on far less wages plus whatever we saved on Grbic.

Then if Anel goes we replace him.

Maybe I’m wrong but it’s hard to recruit when the offer is of being behind your first choice, then your second choice is someone you spent 10m on and your current 3rd choice is a young lad you’re keen to get games to.

What player can you target for that role? How much budget would you seriously allocate and what sort of player would fancy that sort of gig?

Hull are restricted to players not requiring a fee. So, they are looking for a very decent Championship player, who will be happy in the North and who currently does not have a club. There’s a limited number currently available, they have pushed the boat out to get their number one, star striker. They were always going to up the money as this was their best chance.

either way-you want him you just ask-what they offered you oli, well match it’ and he’s here. That’s all the big spenders do. We still have parachutes

Marsh shouldn't be near the first team unless we are not actually wanting promotion. No way good enough for the Championship based on his loan at Fleetwood last season.

We’re talking 4th choice for a team that is deploying 1 striker role in their formation.

We’re not going to be paying 20 grand a week for someone to be a glorified season ticket holder.

But at some stage he's going to be needed, we would need to be extremely lucky to go the whole season without any injuries to our Strikers especially with Campbell's injury record.
I watched a few of Fleetwoods games last season and he's along way off being a Championship player even 4th choice.

I would have liked him back as a squad player.

But paying over the odds? Nah, spend the right money in the right areas.

People getting their knickers in a twist that we aren't matching Hull offering £30k a week.

And then we can't afford players that would be first team starters for who would be a squad player.

Really?

He’s never been a 30k a week footballer

Choosing Hull over United for a couple of extra quid a week. Cus 80k a month just won’t cut it.

Reyt blade Oli.

Couple of snippets from dull daily fail .

Loved McB's passion and connection with the fans, but let's face it, he's either injured, getting up to speed following an injury, wrestling with the centre back, or getting into off-field scrapes. This doesn't fit the modern era of Sheff Utd.
He has matured since his off field scrapes. Seems to have settled down since becoming a dad. Don't think he was injured at Las Palmas was he?

If McBurnie does come back here I'd really hope he gives an impassioned in interview - he wants to stay fit, it's obviously been a disappointment in previous spell. He's grown up and won't get in trouble. He'll help the younger players. He'll look to contribute more goals and make the fans happy.

To try and placate some of the fanbase that went off him for those reasons.

I'm still fairly fond of him and am certain he could do us a good job, though he'd have to accept a squad role.

I'm not sure he'd accept that at this stage of his career. He'll want to be the main man somewhere, and he wouldn't be here.
Absolutely fair and understandable yep.

Then again he might be a lot happier back here as a £15k squad player, doing well, with positive vibes... Than at a chaotic, struggling side on £25k.

I'm not sure he would walk away from an extra half a million quid a year so easily.
