Sheff Wed fans were exactly the same, loving the instant huge ambition shown by Chansiri. They loved the much needed investment
but I’m thinking at the time investment = gambling. The problem is there’s no gaurantee that any gambles will pay off….failed gambles = debt

Wrexham and Birmingham for that matter are gambling again, spending money they can’t afford and building up debt.

If either of them fail to reach the Premier league in the next 10 years they’ll become another Sheff Wednesday and no doubt everyone will have sympathy that they were owned by nasty foreign onward who used them to try and make a profit.

Only in s2 would investment in playing staff and making signings early be equated to the Wednesday model. There’s innumerable clubs who have invested and grown - the bottom half of the Premier League is testament to that.

To get to where we want or be, or even maintain our position, we need to continue to invest in all areas of the club (including loan and permanent additions to playing staff).

Can you remember the meltdown pre christmas that we needed players in january when we were down to the bare bones and playing youth

We are now in a similar position to that we have lost Souza our main midfielder last yeaR plus Choudry/BBD/JRS/Holding/Brewster
We didn't really lose 4 of those because they were all loans so weren't ours to lose and brewster scored fewer than 10 goals in 5 seasons

For all those saying - 'oh it will be alright- keep your powder dry until end of window'

Don't you ever think it would be really pro- active, really professional for once in our lifetimes, be decisive, get the incomings done early, work with them prior to season starting to get a good and proper pre-season.

OK we may get a couple next week - but then they have to settle in - every single season the same. And if the saviour is MCB GOD HELP US.

If the players we want are available early in the window of course it would be great. I wouldn’t want it if it meant settling for 2nd best, though.

I’m gonna try and contact Prince William and ask him if he will speak with the owners about the jack of BIG signings (really hope he’s interested)🤞

Wow- you really have 'swallowed the pill'. I hope for all our sakes you are correct but I'm getting the distinct impression that the monies for a quality RB/ CB/ DM are not going to come forth. I really hope your huge faith is rewarded because right now the OP is correct to be concerned.

I’ve been watching us since 1968. I learned many years ago not to piss my pants or shit the bed. And in life generally I learned not to spend any time panicking and getting whiny about things that are out of my control. I also find it helpful to not make predictions about what will or won’t happen when I don’t actually have a clue. I probably did it when I was younger but will have realised at some point that all it does is make you look stupid. It’s called growing up, I suppose. Some take longer than others, clearly. And that’s good because it gives me people to laugh at.

I've been watching since from exact same time, I wouldn't characterise myself with any of those derogatory terms but I really live in hope each year that prior to the season starting 'we get the business done early'

The one position that is absolutely essential we prioritise is CB. This was blindingly obvious the minute Souttar went down on Boxing Day- yet here we are thinking Jack Robinson is going to start once again 8 months later.

If that makes you laugh at me and think I'm stupid go ahead 'split your sides'.

I really enjoyed this

We’ll not get a true picture until the end of the window as to where we are and the direction of the new ownership , but if as stated in the thread , if a lot of the activity is at the end of the window , up to 3 to 4 league games will have passed in that time & if we are light in reinforcements this could come back to bite us later in the season ?

I know a lot of the loan deals are left late until the loaning out clubs know where they are with their squads but the danger with leaving things that late in the window ion permanent signings is the selling clubs will often hold you to to ransom on price knowing the deadline is close on.

It's clear where we need to strengthen. Even old pig blunkett can discern. If we don't get players in then we either have a manager who is clueless or a board who are potless. The truth will out

Hence why i am concerned because all signs currently point to one of these conclusions..

Big question marks for these yanks ?? You have to worry for selles he’s well up against it not only having to win the crowd having to win the game with no backing, I can’t get my head around these new owners why buy a club not to spend owt why bring your own manager in then don’t back him it’s not gonna end well this I hope I’m wrong an they get their hands in their pockets times ticking tho every other club a making decent signings

Wilder's continued big money signing fuck ups finally caught up with him. Tom (promo clincher £10m) Cannon the final straw. New owners now very wary about splashing serious cash. Gee, thanks Chris.

Worth noting, if we signed no one permanently outside of the young lads, we would start next season with this squad (and these are from the official squad on the website):

GK: Cooper, Gbric, Faxon
FB: Burrows, McCallum, Seriki, Polendekov, Shackleton, RND
CB:
CM: Peck, Arblaster
AM: Hamer, O'Hare
Wingers: Brooks, Ukaki, Caceres
Forwards: Campbell, Cannon, One, Moore

So, although I want permanent signings we aren't in the worst place if there are none.

Obviously very light at CB to the point of madness.
