Hi All, ran this poll a couple of years ago (Prem season under Hecky). Jebbo was the winner of that poll. I believe we all need to take a long hard look at ourselves.....

Fast forward two years, who do you believe will make the step up this season. I believe categorically that Peck was the winner last season.

I have excluded any keepers, as if Cooper gets injured we are buggered...

I think come the end of the season i will round up who i believe has stepped up the most, alongside who has surprised the most and biggest flop (within consideration).

I believe that we are in a really good position in regards to our academy with multiple players on the fringe of making an appearance.

Shame you can only pick 1 player as I can think of 2/3 that could make the step up this season.

Picked Cannon but could have easily picked Brooks as well, both of them will the step up this season.

Think Marsh has a chance of making the step up as well.

My vote went to Brooks. I think if he's in almost any other squad in the championship they would be orgasmic in their excitement to have him.

I was gob-smacked when he got dropped last season whilst playing really well, and then double that level of gob-smackedness when he came back in and played really well... what was the point?
Did we really think having a guy (BBD) who traps a ball further than I can kick one was going to be more dangerous than a quick lad who actually brought the ball forward into threatening areas?

By the looks of York, the AI boys could step with a paintbrush if the The Lane needs some maintenance.

Of those I would have thought Brooks, One and possibly Marsh will have a chance of really pushing on. I’ve voted Brooks but easily could be One.

I went Brooks, partly because I think he's a really talented player who we I underutilised last season, but mainly because I think he'll be given the opportunity to shine in a system that will suit him. We know Selles likes front footed pressing wide players, Brooks is one of the only players in our squad to fit that brief.

Some of the others, i.e. One is someone who'll face a lot of competition. For all his talents, he may end up needing a loan to get sufficient game time. We have: Campbell, Cannon and Moore all competing for (possibly) one starting place.

Into threatening areas then stops and goes back or sideways - no

Gone with Oné as I think Brooks shouldn't be on the list really, having already been a regular first-teamer last season.

As I said in Shoutbox the other day, I just get this feeling that Oné is about to have an Ndiaye-like breakthrough season.

I also chose Brooks before I saw the (above!) choices.
I fully agree with Tongeincheek,s post, (nothing against BBD) but how/why Brooks was left out as much as he was is something I still find puzzling!?. Whether there was a 'fall out' between Brooks and Wilder, I don't know, but, I think Brooks looks and sounds (from his interviews) like he has a point to prove for some reason!, and has really bought into this managerial change IMHO. I hops he proves me right and really kicks on!.

Only 45 mins played and plenty of time for thise following to change!, but wasn't greatly impressed with the AI lads, Bindon. Whereas Blacker (mostly!), Marsh, Sasnauskas looked quite composed and did reasonably well, IMO!. Early days and let's see what the rest of pre-season and different line-ups produce!!

One, will find it hard grabbing the starting spot to start the season with and will be coming off the bench but will then start showing he needs to be in the team from the start and hopefully will then start flying with the goals. He has literally everything you would want in a striker, only negative I saw last year was his decision making in a positional sense, was often heading into the wrong space with his runs, that will come with more games and coaching though so big season coming up from him.

I was in two minds about Brooks being included. However due to his lack of game time, i included him as he does need to step up in availability aspect and contribution on the pitch. Confidence player who needs to be told hes playing the next 10 games regardless whether is good or rubbish to let him know he has the spot and time.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.

Seriously underrated in many quarters of S2 4SU.

If he gets the minutes, expect good / great things this season 😃.

27 year old Tom Davies has played 164 premier league games - about 40 of those under Ancelotti. He made the step up about 9 years ago when he broke through at Everton. His fitness is a concern but not his ability to 'step up'.

Several players have got the opportunity to make the step up, especially Louis Marsh as per my post on the "central midfield position" on Tuesday evening.

The massive difference between wilder and Selles:

* Selles will not have favourites and will pick players on ability, form and their contribution to the task required

* Selles has the vision, technical nous and tactical knowledge to maximise the squad potential.

Also, he is definitely in control regarding which players are being signed, and it is definitely not totally focused on AI only.

Fair comments 100%. Maybe more of an expectation then!
