I agree with the sentiment and your main point but Souza, Peck, Seriki and Burrows all improved significantly last season. I think I’d probably include Campbell too although his fitness issues are obviously concerning. Surely even Wilders biggest critic can’t believe that he doesn’t develop and progress players - it’s one of his biggest strengths.
Souza improved on the previous season in the Premier League but was the same throughout last season. From the first game to the last he was very consistent and reliable, but he wasn't better at the end of the season to how he was when he started it.
Peck, I'd have to disagree on. He came in full of energy but was very hit and miss. Good one game, headless chicken the next. His passing could be good one game, woeful the next. This continued throughout the season. Good in the play off semis, awful in the final. He was the same at the end to how he was when he started.
Seriki, hard to judge. Again, good one game, average the next when not injured, but difficult to judge overall as he never got a consistent run in the team, just a handful of cameos here and there.
Burrows, again I'd have to disagree. He started brilliantly, faded out after Christmas and wasn't the same, then came back to life again in the play offs. He ended the season how he started it but he wasn't any better. He was just as good.
Overall, I was referring to from the first game of last season to the last game, who improved and was a better player at the end to how they were at the start of the season? I can only think one of maybe Brewster, but he didn't contributed much in terms of goals and assists despite the improvement in overall play.
Wilder is good at plucking players from lower leagues and getting them up to Championship level, but once they're here he's so focused on his system and tactics that they don't get much better. He changes them to suit his system instead of vice versa, which would aid their development more. How many Premier League teams have come in for our players while Wilder has been in charge?
