That was my position originally but the speculation is off the scale now, in the local and national media as well as the fanbase. If they have no intention of sacking him, a statement backing him is definitely needed.
In the absence of a atatement many would conclude that he doesn't have the board's backing. In which case it looks like the longest sacking on record which is not a good look. If Wilder's definitely going, they should issue a statement confirming that regardless of whether they have someone lined up or not.
As someone who wants him to stay, I hope that the decision to replace him ia not unanimous and the.silence is because they can't agree on future plans. But as I said, allowing so much speculation to go on for weeks makes the club look unprofessional.
