Would be interesting to see what he would have been able to do if he'd been backed like wilder has.. his players, Souza, Hamer, Anel etc are still our star players.

Couldn't see hecky spunking £33m on utter shite like Brewster and Cannon ..and considering offering a new contract to Brewster 😂😂😂😂😂😂

As much as people slagged him off we'd be up already this season with Hecky

I think this may well be the first time I've agreed with anything you've previously posted. Well said.

They'd all be on the treatment table like when he managed us before!!

They'd all be injured. The football would be boring and shite to watch. He'd stick with plan A when plan A isn't working and make some baffling subs whilst sticking with plan A.

To be fair to him, a couple of those players have come good and we made some money back on some of them (+Southampton decided it was worth copying... doesn't mean much I know)
Aye but if we're accepting that those players ended up being alright after dropping a division, I don't think we can really use Cannon against Wilder can we? In fact, most of the signings he gets blamed for wasting money on came good at some point (Brewster is the obvious one that didn't).

The bloke literally oversaw the worst transfer window in history.
He was given about £30 million net to spend on players and with a low wage cap.

Big money spent on Hamer, Souza and Archer.

Got back/made money on Trusty, Traore, Archer

Bit better business than Brewster and McBurnie!

Nice fella and a good coach but not strong enough to deal with the board. He allowed himself to get treated like a puppet when we sold Berge and Ndiaye and made no signings until the season had started.

Agree, some of our best players were signed by Hecky. He was also keen on bringing on home grown players, and a number of our current youngsters got their first chance under Hecky. Pity he was thrown in at the deep end in the PL. With Berge, Ndiaye and maybe Doyle we would have put up a much better fight.

Really don't understand why Heckingbottom gets so much stick.
Didn't do much before us but got us up on the arse end of the likes of Fleck and Norwood while doing something with Illiman and using the city loan lads very effectively. Let's be honest he's no worse than Wilder!

Hecky wasn’t sexy enough he didn’t have the attributes commercially to chant his name and beat our chests I would have liked to see a real transfer window with him having some proper money.

I did like Hecky, and I know every person has their own unique personality traits, but he just seemed massively lacking in charisma and drive to me.

I'm sure that's just my poor perception of him, but not sure if he's an inspirational leader.

Our current manager has a very high opinion of himself but I doubt even he would not describe himself as 'sexy'.

I can’t be bothered to search up the multiple threads from when he left but I would make the case that Hecky deserves a fair degree of respect from Utd fans for the following:
  • leading us with dignity and calmness at a period when the prince wasn’t paying his bills;
  • getting us promoted when we hugely needed the cash (albeit with the generational talent of N’Diaye at his disposal and churning out some boring footy);
  • being a decent coach who improved our young players.
Yeah he didn’t do well in the transfer market and was a bit too conservative in many respects but I also thought snubbing him when he returned as PNE manager was a bit petty.
And one of the few managers to get us promoted
