I think and always have thought he is a better player than some think and give him credit for, but his issue has always been he missed too many games, and hasn't been helped when he have played him as a target man when he isn't. . The season we went up under Hecky he was excellent, he as one of the very few to come out of the last prem season with any credit and his first season he did okay. However that said, unless someone leaves can only see one striker signing and it needs to be someone with pace and power as well as goals. The drop off from not having Campbell on the pitch is huge.
 

Utds instagram put up a vid of him scoring against Chelsea a couple of hours ago so I think it’s pretty obvious he’s coming back. I was 100% in the Wilder stay camp but honestly if he thinks McB is the answer then yes he really has lost the plot and can go now for me. And when he goes they can rip up McB contract as he’s useless.
 
I don't think Wilder would use him this way... but the best football of his career was playing as an inside-left for Barnsley, as Hamer does for us.

Coindentally the best football of his career was when he wasn't with us so let's keep that up.

We offered McBurnie a new deal last summer and he sat and pondered on it for ages before turning it down. We owe him nothing. Knowing Wilder he'll resign him to a 2-3 year deal.
 
If it free up budget to spend on quality CB’s and creative players outside so be it he’s capable of contributing alongside the others we have upfront.

It is however a worrying indication that our approach to recruitment is still narrow in its scope

I don't agree, opinion has always been divided about him, and I doubt his injury history and fitness will have improved massively while being away.

On top of this he's either pushing One further down the pecking order or our of the door.

I feel only Campbell is the only quality forward in our front line currently, and he can barely manage an hour, the others are either bits and pieces players or unknown quantities, we'd better I feel gambling on someone like Kone, as I'd rather have an unknown than another bits and pieces player.

Yeah I agree with this. With Mcburnie, we'd have our 4; Campbell, Mcburnie, Moore, Cannon. In my eyes that's an 8/10 with a bunch of 6/10's in reserve. We need someone similar to Campbell's level.

Seemed at the time that it was the Prince vetoing those negotiations much as he did with Sharp the year before. Take a step back and look at it through the new owners' eyes, it seems like a pretty low risk roll of the dice to bring him back.

McBurnie's only 29, physically he should be approaching the peak of his career. Only question for me is if he's calmed down off the field.

He'd be at, or past his peak, as a striker. His last season in Spain was hardly one to write home about.

We really need to be aiming for better, otherwise we will end up in this cycle of average at best players on our books, that we cannot get rid of.

He's not "average at best" at Championship level though is he? If you're going to evaluate him at least be fair and even handed.
You don't like him, or rate him; fair enough, but don't just make up nonsense though to support your case.

IMO for what's its worth, we need a change right through the club! Starting with the manager, but it's Starting to look like chris and his gang are here to stay! With players being mentioned, especially Mcburnie! It's rinse & repeat next season then ffs!

Championship (Sheffield United)

21/22 - 28 games 0 goals
22/23 - 38 games 13 goals *

* 9 of these goals were scored in his first 17 games, then only 4 in his remaining 21 games.

In a nutshell, other than a 17 match hot streak, he's been nothing more than a bang average striker, arguably below average as he only scored 4 goals in the other 49 games.

I don't think anyone is trying to change the narrative other than those who are trying to convince others that McBurnie is actually good.

He had always been a player who has divided the fanbase. More so than Monty. That in itself tells it's own story.

The only argument I've ever heard in favour of McBurnie is his defending at set pieces. So let's sign him as a centre back then, after all, he rarely scored from set pieces!

His goalscoring record for us in the Championship is not above average. Quite rich accusing me of not being fair when I am basing my opinion on his statistics for us at that level, whilst also taking into account that he's now two years older than his last spell in the Championship, after a fairly poor year in Spain.

For the record, I like him as a person and have nothing against him whatsoever. I'm not allowing my feelings to dictate the reality, however.

He's got a Championship scoring average the last season he was with us of slightly better than 1:3 goals to games.
His total career Championship average is also slight better than 1:3.
That's not below average.

We already all agree we have no pace in the squad as it is, could u imagine selling hamer and replacing the LW position with mcburnie? Fml 🙈.

We'd also have the lowest counter attack of all time with mcburnie and Moore breaking forward.

Don't get the annoyance at re-signing McBurnie. He's an upgrade on Moore. If McBurnie starts Vs Sunderland does anyone think we don't win that game with the chances Moore had? Could be a very good link up option with Tyrese.

He's not a stand out signing of the window, but he's an improvement on what we have.
