Always said there has to be some reward / advantage for league placing over 46 games .
Play Offs only down to 5th placed side.

3rd Place - Straight to final vs winner of SF

Semi Final
4th vs 5th - Fourth placed side at home as reward for higher placed finish

Other longer permutations would mean 3rd placed side would wait too long to play other winners of SFs/ QFs

No way the Prem teams would vote for it, but it would be interesting to have a relegation playoff.

With the promoted clubs finding it harder and harder to stay up, another chance for the 3rd bottom club against the 4th, 5th and 6th bottom clubs would be interesting to see.

That or guaranteeing that at least one of the not recently promoted would have to battle it out with the likes of us or Sunderland. Give your West Hams and your Evertons some actual jeopardy.

The premier league needs something to keep things interesting for longer. The title and relegation were wrapped up weeks ago. So all there is left to play for is European qualification, which is pretty boring with half the league able to get a place these days.

A relegation playoff would spice things up, but it would be turkeys voting for Christmas so no chance it would get enough votes.

I think I have said this before, but I would prefer:

3v4, winner straight to final
5v6, loser to beach
Loser first v winner second, winner to final

Gives clear incremental benefits for every place, particularly if you just miss out on autos

The play offs will stay they maintain competition and interest. Although it is a terrible incentive for short term planning by clubs and managers. But reducing it to three teams, 5 play 4 ( home fixture), winners plays 3rd ( home fixture), would give some balance. Bit still they won't give a wembley final and any extra fixtures that draw a TV audience.
