Not necessarily crucial to visit the ‘big boys’:- over recent years I’ve visited (using Heart of Midlothian as the ‘excuse’) :
Tallinn (wonderful , highly recommended) Mallorca, Stutgart, Sarajevo,) Bordeaux, Braga, Rotterdam (?!?), Malta ,Basel, Athens, Plzen , Prague , Riga, (glorious), Zagreb, Florence, Istanbul, Brugge Copenhagen (also wonderful, wonderful)
May have seen em win s couple of games n’all Biggest regret was giving Minsk a miss - they won !
Didn’t bother with Liverpool nor Tottingham

One of the real benefits is they tend to be mid- week (Thursday for Conference & Europa League) which significantly reduces flight & accommodation costs + no bugger wants to watch their (similarly obscure) team play HOMFC so tickets not a problem
Also allows attendance @ most every SUFC game.
Also good for conversation, usually begins with the question “why?”

Just once I'd like us to take the league cup a bit more seriously and really have a go at it. It's our best chance at winning something significant.

Not sure winning the Championship means that much as its promotion that everyone ones really.

Trophy for me no question. Mainly because it means coming out on top of something and having it in the cabinet whereas a European campaign could well be getting battered away at Sheriff Tiraspol and then going home.

Having never seen us win the Championship I can’t say for certain but I’m not sure how much satisfaction winning it would carry.

Promotion is the real prize there, the one that’s won first and celebrated hardest. 1st place is more the icing on the cake.

According to Transfermarket over the last 4 seasons Aston Villa have a net transfer spend of around £122 m, an average of just over £30m per season . This puts them way behind many of the PL’s real big spenders and even , would you believe Ipswich Town .

Another interesting comparison is the fact that in 23 / 24 SUFC spent more than their average and in 20 / 21 more than doubled it with a net spend of £62.7m .

This suggests to me that the reasons for Villa’s s recent success go far deeper than the amount of money they have spent.

The 16/17 season was the only time I've seen Blades lift a proper trophy for something that we won (2nd place trophy doesn't feel the same), that L1 title might not be classed as a major trophy (like the PL, FA Cup, League Cup etc) but it's something I'll remember for a long time.

For how bad Leicester are at the moment, people will always remember them winning the PL against all the odds, but not the decent run in Europe that they had the next season, people will remember them being the first none big 6 team since Wigan to win the FA Cup.

Years from now, people won't be talking about Newcastle getting into the CL either this season or a few years ago (they might not even remember it), but they will remember Newcastle as the 2025 League Cup winners.

Tbh I don’t know if others are the same but for me since the CL moved away from terrestrial and Sky to BT Sport and whatever other broadcaster has it now it doesn’t have the same cut through.

I have so little interest in it that it may as well be another sport.

People say the FA Cup is diminishing in value, perhaps they’re right, but I’ve always had faint hope that one day we might reach a final, actually winning a cup seems so far out of reach that it’s hardly worth dreaming about but it’d still be my preferred choice over Europe.

Being honest they’re both pipe dreams atm.
