That picture suggests we may as well forget tomorrow.

Sunday is going to be a major doubt too.

May sound simplistic but not sure how effective those lights are to dry the pitch especially when it is still rainin?

Surely a simple cover on the whole pitch or one of those Cricket sucker (super soaker is it) things would be better?

What do I know though.

A pitch sized bar drip mat? You know the new style ones that are just a few millimeters thick not the old style Double Diamond ones.

As far as I'm aware, they aren't designed to dry the pitch... they're just to allow photosynthesis in areas of the pitch that don't get any/much natural light.

Sunshine here in Shef currently (well, Walkley anyroads). I'm looking forward to it actually, I hope it's on.

Oooo... imagine a sliding-on-knees goal celebration in that lot!

What you're looking at there isn't even the worst side of the pitch (usually). The opposite touchline usually gets the worst of it.

And I can see my seat :)

My God, Linz, you must be flexible! :D ;)

Might seem daft, but why dont they just cover the pitch? Not obviously just put a bit o plastic over it, but like a massive sheet over the entire thing raised up with lights underneath to replicate the sun? Seems obviously logical to me or am I missing something that means the pitch has to get completely mashed up by rain?!

You mean a roof on BDTBL don't you?

Kind of but not really, if its pissing it down, or inbetween games, get a massive sheet of tarp or something raised above the pitch, leave it there with lights under it till gameday, then take it down, perfect pitch(ish)

I suspect it would get a smidge humid under there. A much better idea would be to install the sort of drainage they have at Lords. It can be torrential and 2 hours later they are playing cricket.

Do we have such a thing as a cover?? We really need these games on, the weather wasn't good last week but the game Saturday was on comfortably.

From sufc.co.uk:

Due to the continued rainfall over the last few days as well as snow showers today (Tuesday), the Bramall Lane surface was saturated as of Tuesday afternoon, with standing water spread across the pitch.

The areas that caused the main problems recently have been covered up since Monday, to protect them from the elements.

Sheffield United has been in contact with the Football League today, who advise that we should review the situation very early on Wednesday morning, at which time a pitch inspection will be organised, should one deem to be required.

I too am not bothered if it is off this mid week - rather it be played later in season when it is warmer even if is looking like a bit of a backlog - still enough mid weeks to squeeze it in.

If it is off which is likely due to the weather forecast tomorrow, the next free midweek date is probably Tuesday 1st April. The temperature and weather is usually good at that time of the year!

Get it called off!
If we play on the pitch in it's current state we're likely to ruin it for the rest of the season.
There are FOUR spare midweeks to go at in April.
That allows for the Brentford match + 3 more cup matches (Replay, QF. Semi Final).
Unless we have two replays to squeeze in we shouldn't have a problem.

The game will almost certainly be off

This is Good ITK from someone on the staff, he's never been wrong about this sort of thing before, He says, the club have been informed that the rain tomorrow is not the only worry but the Police are seriously concerned about the "damaging" winds forecast to be due for the Sheffield area between 4pm and midnight, if the forecast still stands tomorrow morning the Police will call the game off.

Now I don't know about you but I can just about accept the game being called off for a waterlogged pitch but if it's called off for a bit of wind I will be royally pissed off.

If Swindon win the 2nd leg of the Mickey mouse cup Southern final against Peterborough next week then our league match at Swindon (March 29th) will have to be re-arranged as 30th March is the final of the mickey Mouse Cup

Definite fixture congestion and a ruined pitch now OR possible fixture congestion in April based on a whole load of unlikely ifs and buts. That seems to be the choice.

If the half hearted performance against Crewe, immediately prior to the Fulham match, is anything to go by, I hope the game is called off.

Save the pitch and the players for Sunday, then take three points of Brentford later in the year.

UTB

Nigel Clough mentioned last night that there is a long term hope of a new pitch.....£800,000 to find though for a proper one.

Short term.....just do their best to keep it going.

Why do we have to find such a measley sum?

Surely Abdullah has that amount stuffed in the back pocket of an old pair of jeans somewhere.

I used to sit next to Fred Bingham. He could generate enough wind for any game to be called off unless gas masks were provided.

Problem is that the ground (and, thereby, the pitch) is owned by McCabe.

Precisely. Some won't take any notice of this but KM and HRH have entered into a contract. The Prince's obligation is to invest in the first team and associated infrastructure, not the pitch.

I wonder if some of you spend your own money as profligately as you want others to?

If people don't want to spend money profligately, they shouldn't get involved in professional football.
